Chinamans Shakedown Run

I am out, got pulled into gate duty on the 18th! Sucks being one of the few MA's qualified to arm up on an Airforce base!?!?!?

I'm out. I did something to my front end when I was in Utah two weeks ago (maybe a balljoint) and I haven't had time to even figure it out yet.

Have fun!

Traildamage has it as a 4-7 rating. I'm not really intending to do this run, but I'm interested in doing this trail with some friends in built rigs.

Could a locked front and rear stock height XJ with sliders/skids/tow points make it with low body damage risk and not drag the group down? I do want to try harder lines and push the limits of the vehicle/driver but I don't want to totally destroy the sheet metal or ruin the day for the group. Some scratches and dents I can live with but I'd like to be able to roll down windows, open doors, etc.

Not sure if anyone would care if i don't have tow hooks but still thinkin on it. I found out they aren't making me work that day... ?

Unfortunately Keifer...... You will slow the group down. You're running stock gears on 33's and no locker - you're gonna end up taking a strap once or twice on this run.

Everyone attending this run needs to have tow points. We made some exceptions for the Eagle Rock run and hindsight being 20/20...... wasn't a good call. That's my opinion though.......

EDIT: Lemme rephrase that first comment........ You MIGHT slow the group down. I didn't mean to make an absolute there Keifer - my bad. You could very well 'wheel the heck out of the trail....... but on the likelihood that the last obstacle will be impassable without lockers and the possibility of needing a strap or winch up....... everyone attending this run should have proper anchor points up front at a minimum.

So that being said is one tow hook better then none? for up front at least?

One solid tow point up front is all you need and it's way, way, way better than no tow point.

Even locked rigs can break a u-joint and need pulled thru Chinamans....... so I've heard anyways

Well I guess we'll see how it goes when I head up there. Maybe later April early May, when my other buddies are ready for a shakedown. The low end rating according to trail damage is lower than the high of slaughterhouse, (I’m probably giving their rating system too much credit) and I walked all of the hard obstacles I could find on that trail. The difference being, from what I've seen, slaughterhouse has lots of twisties that favor lockers over ground clearance, it looks like chainman’s may favor height over lockers with obstacles that have larger random spaced rocks, etc. It should be fun though, no better way to become a better driver, and give my spotter a workout. I sort of lost sight of the challenges of driving when my last jeep had 35's+ with 2 lockers, it was like "what that was a named obstacle?"
cheers,
Nate

I am not sure how old Trail Damages report is! But OCG is definately not a easy trail anymore. It gets a little more challanging every year.

Just FYI since the Chapter is kinda officiating this run, we have to have some stipulations in place.

ok so what are the stipulations to run this trail?

Rig/equipment requirements:

3" lift or higher
Minimum one GOOD front anchor point
One locker or limited slip is preferred, but not essential
Driver/owner willing to accept trail damage.

CB radio's are highly recommended, as are tools, trail spares, matching spare tire.

I don't see an arbitrary lift height helping over requiring bigger tires or lockers, but I do understand when setting up runs if those going make rig requirements, but blanket lift type requirements can be extremely exclusive. Especially when I think it could be argued that a locker helps more than a lift especially if tire size is the same.
A rear anchor point should also be included.
A willingness to accept trail damage is somewhat vague, there's a difference between understanding that dings and scratches happen but trying to avoid them and being spotted on line where there is a high likelihood of massive damage done to the rig. Some people are willing to pivot their jeep around a tree to make a line, others are not, etc.
I would put a full size spare tire as a requirement.
Either way, I hope this run went well.
I'm not really writing this as trying to force my way into a run or anything, I couldn't care less if people don't want to wheel with me because I don't have a lift, I'm just thinking if requirements are being made they should pretty basic recovery type requirements and then individual trails runs can chose whatever they want.

Are we allowed to bring along any non-NAXJA rigs? Just curious whether or not I can extend an invitation to a family member. His rig meets all requirements.

I agree with the minimum requirements. I'm on 36s locked and don't want to be stuck behind a stock rig all day long.
This is a big run. We don't want to slow down the run with incapable rigs.

is led even comin?...

i want to see how that yellow thing does with its recent.....uh....weight reduction....lol
