I'm probably the least competent mechanic in the MW, and it was easy for me. It was harder to run down the ZJ steering part numbers. You'll be fine. :thumbup:

If you have trouble finding a consistent measurement for toe, bungee cord a 4' fluorescent tube to each front wheel, across the center of the wheel. Makes it a bit easier to check/measure consistently.

I don't know, it seems like it has come together pretty quickly from cyberspace, lol. I know it's not advisable, but I like to use my 4 lb multi-tool on tie rods...I'm just real careful. Do you plan on getting an alignment after messing with the steering? I guess close enough is good enough if you're trailering. I want to put my zj tie rod on, but really don't want to spend the $60 on an alignment and 2 hours waiting for it at the shop.

I laid the torch to it with the tie rod fork and got it all apart...i'm only swapping the steering box, not messing with the draglink so I'm not having to mess with the alignment...and what everyone else said, the only thing you can adjust is the toe in for an alignment.

...wow...you got me, i completely forgot about that...lol it only has 156,741 on it now...you guys cut me a good deal right?...ok i paid for an alignment once...i've drank since then...

btw, i marked off tonight, you wanna help me throw that steering box in and see if it doesn't leak...gears got put off till friday morning...

Well, I've paid for only one alignment on my XJ, too and I don't regret it...right after the lift and they slid the axle over on their nifty rack to adjust the track bar. Just put the ZJ tie rod on and boy was that easy. And that adjustment sleeve, wow, I adjusted it by hand and it went right into line. Don't plan to ever pay for an alignment on the XJ again!
