Autopals + HIDs = Trouble aiming.

Hey guys ,wish I would have seen this thread earlier, the AutoPal housings are e-code spec, which are meant to have the passenger side throw light higher, its to stop from blinding traffic, yet still give you more road coverage.

James, You have my cel number, and I would be happy to answer and help you get them aimed.... shoot me a pm, call my mobile, or email all work.

Worse advice ever when trying to put HID in an H4 housing. The clear housings have a notoriously poor beam pattern even with a Halogen bulb.

Yes, the clear housings and HIDs are a bad mix!

Yeah, if you ordered on ebay from Riminic, he is great to work with, I would ship back in return for the e code housings.

I sent him an email just waiting on a response. I ordered the right ones the first time but one of which is now smashed due to an Accident! So I ordered a new set for the new Jeep and ordered the crystal ones without thinking. It says he has a 7 day return policy and I ordered them 2 weeks ago so if worst comes to worst I'll put them on my beater Jeep. Also, no disrespect to you or your product I just thought i'd try something different than everyone else. It may be a mistake or they may last a long time. If it is a mistake, I'll call you!

I think my suggestion is best if you have plans to eventually do a proper projector retro. A proper retro requires: 1) affordable headlights you're willing to carve 2) an oem d2s take-out kit 3) bi-xenon projectors 4) harness. By purchasing a cheap D2S/H4 shield you should have a clean cut-off, and most importantly 2 of the 4 components to retrofit projectors already in your truck (remember - aftermarket HIDs don't work with OEM projectors).

The problem with my idea is that - until you do the projector retro - you'll be stuck without a high-beam, so if you're not interested in doing an eventual retro than you might as well buy an aftermarket H4 hi/lo kit, and cross your fingers you didn't buy a dud.

The problem there is that you need clear lenses and I haven't seen a quality clear lens housing worth the effort to actually do the retrofit on for our lights.

Bajahid sells bixenon H4 kits that pivots the bulb. I've been tempted to try them in my Cibies, which are probably the best halogen H4 housing. I'm just concerned that if I do the kit I will have too much glare and just take them out. That and I don't know how long the pivot mechanism would last.

My autopals didn't glare, I've never once been flashed by anyone. Just a funky pattern, but I think that's just due to my ignorance. I personally feel you'll be just fine with Cibies and TCMs kit.

I'm running Tony's HIDs in my wife's minivan (that's right, he can hook you up for your non-Jeep vehicles too :D) and aside from somehow reversing the headlight operation (to get low beams, we have to use the highbeam setting and for high beams, we flip back to "low"), we have no complaints. Love the bright white light, love the add'l illumination, and in her stock housings, no complaints from other drivers either!

Most lenses suck. Even the ones on my pricey bi-xenons aren't that great. All you really need is a 6054 with a clear lens; the actual headlight housing/ reflector quality doesn't matter since all the light output will be managed by the projector itself. Even if you were to buy a headlight with a crappy lens that discolored or broke after the retro replacing it with a new lens would be fairly straight forward. All the real work on these retros is in the housing, headlight buckets mod, and wiring

BTW. Did I show you this before. It's a decent video-log of a bi-xenon XJ install. The guy did a decent job (FYI he used FXR projectors).

Would this be the case if you were using the Retrofit projectors? I was told you need the 6054 with the patterned lens for HID's like the ones from DDM or BajaHID. I am hearing what i think are conflicting arguments about this. I'm confused.

It generally doesn't matter what type of lens you use with projectors... HIDPlanet is proof of this.

Without projectors? I'm honestly not sure, but I suspect you're right about the patterned lens.
Sylvania used to make a DOT approved HID kit for our 6054 application back in the day. It didn't
use projectors, and it had a patterned lens. Here's a pic.

The light output doesn't look bad on those! I'll get a shot of mine when I get them installed. I am gonna go ahead and order the e-codes with the patterned Lens and put the clear lens ones on the other Jeep since it won't get HID's and it needs something other than the sealed beams.
