Autopals + HIDs = Trouble aiming.

FlexdXJ, did you get your HID's hooked up yet? I'm looking to run the same setup you have.

No, I just got home from WF. It looks like we got some decent weather in between the rain showers this week. I am going to pull the HD harness that from what I have been told is unnecessary with HID's and put them in. All while trying not to drop one lens first on the garage floor......AGAIN! :D

The kit I bought also has a lifetime warranty against defects. As well as I don't have to shit it to Japan to get my replacement. I think it's just the housings now to be honest, the passenger side HID bulb blew a few days ago, and I've been running around with just halogen bulbs and it's doing the same thing. Can anyone recommend another H4 housing other than the autopal ? oh and it needs to be E code, not DOT.

I still don't have working HIDs.

So another interesting factor........ Autopal has 2 different versions of the ecode. the newer versions do not have the internal reflector, which works a whole lot better. I have been told we can remove it on the older versions with no harm at all.

Hmm. Not sure how I missed this thread for so long.

I've got the bajahid hi/low kit with newer autopal housings, and have great luck with them. I have about 8" of lift and the only time I have seen anyone show any sign of getting light in their eyes is when I am right behind them catching the rear view mirror. I intend to aim my lights down a bit more trying to correct that, but only drive the jeep to and from trails, so its not something I've spent a lot of time playing with yet.

Really? I just ordered some about 3 weeks ago. When did this changeover take place?

Interesting. I've read something, either here or another Jeep forum, about removing the reflector/shroud- I noticed one of mine is badly oxidized, and not much of a reflector, but I wondered if it was really a good idea to do so. (still running Halogens atm anyway).

The shields may be of a benefit to HID as it can block glare. However on a good halogen housing the shield will do nothing good... I also say a properly designed housing. As for some reason Autopal thought the shield was necessary.

i believe those shields are referred to as "glare guards". i've removed them from several different lights(not e-code 6054 housings though), and have seen a nice increase in light, great light pattern, and no real increase in glare that i can detect. even when approaching in another vehicle at night. i'm not sure what would happen with hids, if one were to remove that glare guard. i want to know bad enough that i may do it to my own junk to see what happens. i've got both hella e-codes and autopals to play with, using my bajahid kit.

Hmm, you have a picture of the internal reflector ?

Got my HID's hooked up today. It was easy other than dropping the nut from the negative terminal and spending an hour finding another nut! :smsoap: I will get pics in a little while and post them up. The DDM kit was cake to hook up. It was kind of tight when connecting the Ballasts to the lights though.

Alright pics as promised ***Disclaimer: this is not perfect but WAYYYYYYY better than standard H4 bulbs. I also did not play with the settings on my camera, the pics aren't the best.*** DDMtuning Raptor V2 55w Hi/Lo kit w/ 5000k bulbs and an ebay HD harness in Autopal E-code(standard not crystal) housings. HID's are one of the best mods I've done to date.

That is completely too much glare.

I know I need new pics/ better pics, but here's an older pic of my lights.

Its a little funky but far better than stock or even the H4's that came with it. thats why i put the disclaimer up there. There was no flicker at all and not single vehicle flashed their lights at me last night. Still having an issue with the HD harness. I can go from Lo to Hi but when i try to go back it doesn't do it until i turn the lights off. I am thinking I have a bad relay. They are no projector but the get the job done. I wonder if removing the internal shield would fix the glare issue? Also not sure if it matters but that driveway is not level. It has a pretty good slope to it. That may be why it looks like that.

I've seen worse.

I do see hot spotting in the very front beam... that's the big bright spots you see on the wall. They can even be seen in the dust of the side view.

Yeah i noticed them too. It doesn't bug me that much. The glare kinda sucks though. Still beats the hell out of Halogen!
