17's or 15's dilemma

I'm not sure about that. The reason 16.5's are getting harder to find is that they use a horrible bead design and they were made for split rims which are almost extinct. They don't use 16s like they used too but I doubt you'll see them go almost completely away like the 16.5's almost are.
 
There are always good deals on 16's. If you are happy staying at 35's or smaller, just watch craigslist and pick some up from some rich dude putting 20's on his chevy.

I am running a cl set of bfg's on my suburban in a 265/75r16. 90% tread, paid $150 with rims that I sold for $100

Got a set of 315/75r16's on my xj. 70% tread bfg at's came on superduty wheels for $400ish. I really like how they air down and perform on my light xj. I was worried that they would be too stiff, but they are fine.
