Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

Also grabbed this from jeff. Ordered IRO 2" front 3" rear coils and matching 5100s. Doing a stereo, stabilizer, unit bearings, TREs, ball joints, tcase skid, front tow points, and tons of other odds and ends. I love driving this thing. Already changed the oil twice and took it wheeling the day I bought it.

replaced the door lock actuator on the WJ and swapped in a Pioneer blue tooth single din stereo . So much more daily driver now.
Have rotors and pads waiting to go in front and rear.
lift should be here this week. SO much win on this WJ. been driving it all over. its very fun to drive On-Road compared to the XJ and the MJ.

Found some scrap DOM with 3/8" wall and maybe 1" or 1.25" OD to lengthen the rear sway bars when I lift this thing.

Front already has JKS quicker discos and JKS trackbar. Ordered Kevins offroad trakcbar buhsings for it. Threw on a new TRE at the pitman arm and a new Moog trail boss stabilizer , and some Kevins offroad bushings that were used off Lisas WJ. and its already driving so much nicer.

I think down the road, the WJ will get a selectable front, LSD rear, and some 31.5" duratracks. Way down the road.

Ill be building it some Sliders and Skids .

...and so it begins haha. Isn't this how your mj and pats mj builds started?

small crap done... swapped a new hood in and fixed the driver rear door lock actuator so all locks unlock with the front master lock.

Thanks to Tommy for the help with the Hood and the passenger door. It feels good to have all those little odds and ends tied up.

Swapped out the busted door from reno the window didnt break, but it wouldnt roll up. now it does .

also swapped in new front pads and calipers. apparently this front end was from a 85-88 F350, according to the chromos I got from RWKhaus after measuring, so ordered pads and calipers for a 87 and they bolted right up.

Just little stuff before Sierra Fest.

really all thats left is to make a ram skid. I was thinking about bending some 1.5" DOM into a hoop to weld to the axle, but I was also thinking of being lazy and just welding some 1/4" plate to the tube and gusseting it.

thoughts?

Yeah i better tube it

The wj got some more love
:
2" front 3" rear

Plated the driver side frame rails and made some weld washers for all three trackbar holes were wallowed out. Adjusted the jks trackbar and discos for the lift up front and recentered the steering wheel. Then lengthened the rear sway bar links.

Also ignition cylinder went out so i had to re key a new one

Had a prothane lying around so removed the factory bump stop driver side

Also installed new unit bearings and rotors and pads while it was apart.

For now the front gained 3.25" over how it was sitting. Rear closer
To 3.75". I suppose the stock coils Had sagged over time. The trailer hitch gained 5" which is nice.

Lengthening stock rear sway bars:

Hole saw then center drill it . Lucky for me i keep all my hole saw leftovers

Spent friday night regearing mikes front axle on his explorer

Also made a skid for the ram on Tiny

Well you posted it so I'll say it, I can't thank you enough for the help gearing. We spent all of 7-8 hours friday night getting that third dialed. I wouldn't dare publicize your abilities with that cuz there is a crazy amount of time and know how with gearing an axle. The sob's at Xtreme 4x4 makes it look 50 times easier.

Some basic math required

Yeah that was cool man. I now know the next ttb dana 35 front end will go way way faster. Start with little pinion shim if your running a oil slinger

drove this big POS to work today.
seems slower than ever. any slight minor incline on the freeway and it drops into 3rd to try to hold 60mph....it can go 65mph on flat ground if it tries really hard

I did clock the heims and the ram to take out the roll after re installing it and not taking out the roll in it and steering was a little bit sloppy .

New rotors and pads , and tons of brake bleeding , brakes actually are worse than before with the worn down rotors and old pads. WTF. I checked for a stuck Pad. I wonder if a caliper died on me? It uses 87 f350 pads and rotors. I might go grab new calipers and see what that does.

Fixed the brakes. One more fresh caliper, then I wire wheeled the pads and rotors a ton to remove glazing . Them brake cleaner to clean the rotors and more bleeding. Lasty,
I properly bed the brakes last
Night driving from 50mph then braking to 10 multiple times. Stops very good now.

How did you determine your calipers were bad? My XJ swerves left when I hard brake from higher speeds. Don't know how to tell if left is sticking, or right just isn't working... or maybe shock is worn.

If it swerves while braking thats a goodnsign something isnt right.
I was guessing one of the new ones i had swapped wasnt working right
Due to pad wear and the way the right side of the rig wouldnt seem to want to stop as fast. Calipers are cheap accidentes are not
