Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

Yeah we fixed it

compression is 140-150 across all cylinders....
makes no sense why its so gutless going up hill....

40" tires have nothing to do with it.. Haha :anon: Sorry. Had to

40" tires are definitely part of the problem. I am sure if I was on 37s it would have a lot more power.
weird to see such good compression and have it be so gutless.

40" tires is a lot of weight and mass to push around then factor in a heavy rig... Trails wouldn't be an issue but on the streets it's gonna be under powered. The axle gearing is 5.38 right? You might have to look into stroker/turbo/supercharger/Ls swap.

yeah Russ Potenger is helping me put together a stroker. He is building the head, going to send me pistons and other stuff I need. and I just dropped a 30 over block off at a local machine shop and a 4.2 crank to get ground and polished. trying to get it together asap.

around town its fine, on the trail its awesome and downhill its fine, but the steep grades on the way up the mountains, its pretty bad, 35-40mph at 4000+ RPMs in the higher elevation highways on the steep mountain freeways.

1 tons, cage, heavy 40s, tools, parts, winch, bumpers, spare 40" tire, this thing aint light.

Yeah I will need some help - ill take you up on that Joe!

I am using Kenmonth Machine out here in sacramento .
They are the only place in northern california that does custom grinds on Camshafts and they have like 5 crankshaft machines. its a very cool place to be in to see like 30,000 crankshafts everywhere.

Block was .020 over not .030 over. Ken month is Bringing it to .030 over and have Russ Potenger shipping down pistons, rods, custom grind camshaft and lifters tomorrow hopefully or the day after.

Russ is shooting to have the head done 1-2 weeks upon receiving the head... chevy LS valves and springs .... Its very exciting. I am looking to have 2 , maybe 3, different socal chapter guys bring Russ P a head for me, and Russ will take the rest of the heads that are good .

Super joints and inner chromos. Fresh outer chromos too. Dirt cheap from rwkhaus . Robert is the man. Super fast shipping.
Ford tmr knuckle plating kit should be here soon.
Comparing a 760 spicer to a yukon dana 60 super joint. Not a fair compare when you compare a 44 to a 60, but really just to show how strong the 60 is....but you get the idea on these 60 front super joints being super beefy

Found a cracked KP that was also hand tight

Added gusseting to the traction bar

Plated the back of the traction bar to

Looking good bud. Can't wait to do some quality wheeling with this thing this sumer.

Yes I plan on a ton more wheeling. Giddiup

Jon, your rig just keeps growing. I love to see all the upgrades you do. Nothing is too much! Will you be ready for the Con on 7/7? I would love to see this thing on the trail.

thanks for the compliments Skipper ! I am going to try to make that trip. Depends on where the stroker build is at, etc.

Strokin'!

Gonna have to add some reinforcements to the traction bar once you finish the engine.
