Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

I picked up a 99+ intake manifold at the Reno PNP and grabbed a machined blocked bored 30 over on the way home from reno.
I am going to build some sweet sliders out of 2x2 .250 wall for spencer (Bajacrawler) in trade for a 4.2 crank and rods.

I still might end up sourcing all the parts myself and paying Seal to put it together if it seems too intimidating. I think its something I can do myself now that I have the block here but I have no freakin clue how to build a motor.

Thats hilarious that you fit a block in there. Lol. You're the man!

If you're feeling up to it, try to do it yourself. Building a motor is tons of fun for me and rewarding. Heres a few tips from my builds:
Just follow all the tourque sequnces and tolerance gaps to a T.
Use good assembly lube
Dip all the internal bolts in oil, except for the ones that call for loctite.
Put assembly lube on the underside of the bolt heads so they can slide against their mating surface to ENSURE you get them properly tourqued.
DOnt use your impact, it will blast all the oil out of the bolt threads to fast. You want the oil to kreep up the threads naturally with a hand wrench.
I could come down and help with assembly when you get all the parts in.

Break motor in with this and conventional oil for 3 hours.

Nice. Yeah I plan to use valvoline VR-1 racing oil plus ZDDP additives like Lucas (or other manufacturers similar oils) when I break it in.

I think worst case is, I get as far as I can alone , and get a pro(Seal or whoever) if needed. I will obviously have all the machine work done by a shop as needed, but its nice the block is already bored out . I will probably have it decked and use the 258 rods and use the pistons to match, which can be grabbed off summit racing for like 150$.

ok cool. I found this one, same one, but 6" wide. I wonder if it will fit ? How much room did that one have being 4" wide? I need to take a look at my setup real quick when I get off work.

There was some dinky little trans cooler on there when I got the jeep, 20$ fin sort of deal, probably from AutoZone or ORiellys. Tranny fluid isn't black, but its all fresh basically before reno since I just swapped the transmission in , and after reno its all burnt to hell. time for a new trans cooler!

I was searching your build and missed it. There it is . Thanks. Ill try the 6" one since im already beating up this trans good

I ended up ordering the 6" cooler. just drained my trans pan and the fluid looked like crap . that was the first run on this fluid/new transmission. I am going to swap the current cheap trans cooler into the PS cooler and take out the smaller PS cooler and swap in the current trans cooler.

MJ leaves
26x31
Flipped Ranger leaves
31x26

69$ for the 1250, I would only need the main leaves anyway.

technically the 31" would be a 8" stretch over stock XJ. I would have to relocate the gas tank and move fenders back a ton, and lengthen the rear DS and the traction bar. that wouldnt be too bad, I just need to find a weekend to do it. If I stretched the front another 1", that would put me around 112" total since the front is already stretched...

I guess these would be the easiest route :

grab the mains from them.

cut my trackbar down and also installed the 99+ intake. welded a small hole in my exhaust manifold and wrapped my injectors and the underside of the intake manifold. figured its slightly cooler that way...

had all the tape lying around:

J & W had MJ packs- 50$ each. grabbed a pack so I can carry a spare main leaf with me. cheapest option.

Engine build is slowly moving along. Paint matched the cage. Turned out better than a kick in the nuts.

That looks awesome. Did you have to buy more than the two cans? and where did you find them at?

Automotive touchup paint .com ornsomething like that

A lot of parts stores can mix paint and toss them in aerosol cans.

I just order online . I dont have time to drive around and dick around with it.

compression is 140-150 across all cylinders....
makes no sense why its so gutless going up hill....
