Hi all I'm looking for a DANA 44 REAR AXLE Housing, I want to convert my CJ7 rear from the problem prone AMC20 to the stronger 44. I would like to find one with Disc Breaks. I don't really care about the gear ratio, it's going to be completely gone though and modified for my application. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

there's a few isuzu rodeos at the oceanside ecology, i believe those are d44 and do have disk brakes. they're 6 lug though. rear axles are in them, they did say dana, and i believe they're 44's. someone else will have to chime in to tell you if they're any good though.

Do you have the off set pumpkin with quadratrac, narrow or wide trac (what year CJ)? A D44 comes in may different widths but are stronger in stock form. If you throw the same mods on a AMC 20, the D44 will always be stronger. Look at car-part.com to see if they have a bolt in D44. I see a few XJ down here in the Chula Vista yards but never with a D44 as they are usually ripped out within a day. I haven't seen a CJ in the yards in years. Isuzus are somewhat common but you have the bolt pattern problem, but if you are building ground see if anyone makes an axle shaft with the bolt pattern needed.

Thanks for the replies, I have a 84 CJ Wide Track, Pumpkin looks to be centered. Ford 8.8, never thought about that. are they less rare, and are they better priced. The CJ AMC20 is 55inch wide.

Bolt pattern not a concern I'm going to replace the Axels with the correct 5x5.5 pattern.

I have been considering upgrading the rear axle in my CJ to a D60. Hmmm

I will have to think about it, but tempting since I could keep the ARB for the XJ.

The CJ D44 is a widetrack and has disc brakes with Superior Shafts. It was built buy Currie and has low miles on it since built. Only thing you would need is to pick your gears and carrier.
