Just wondering if anyone has a 36" length of 2"x4" .250" wall tubing they would be willing to sell. I want to fab up a new tranny cross member and would like to use this tube as the base. I found it online but the shipping is kinda high. So, if ya have some and don't mind parting with it, let me know. Thanks.

I just bought a chunk here in sacto for around 30$ or so of 2x4x3/16. fab place in downtown. spent about a day or so on the crossmember and tcase skid.
whats your local steel place asking?

Thanks John. Actually I don't even know a local supplier. I will be trying to call a few places tomorrow (Monday) to see if they carry it and if they'll sell specific lengths. Who did you go thru? Since my daughter lives in Natomas I do get over that way every now and then.

I'm planning on doing something similar to what you did but with a different skid (still working on that part) and a 1" drop for the tranny mount. I'm thinking that the drop will give me the room I need to clock my t-case up one more position. Tho, I must say, I'm not looking forward to wrestling with that heavy s.o.b again. As it sits now it hangs down about 1/8" below the bottom of my stock cross member and I've also had to cut off a little bit of the lip on the back side of the cross member to keep it from hitting the t-case. This should take care of both issues.

I used ABC metal supply in downtown and S&K steel off florin perkins . Usually ABC since they are so close to my house.

rob, 1/4 wall is overkill.
i used 3/16 on my red p.o.s. & it gets beat pretty hard.

And looking at prices, it looks like it's quite a bit less and can still stand up to the abuse. Thanks Tim.

I used 3/16 on my most recent one I built. You can see it in my build thread. If it ever gets dented up, I plan to then plate the bottom with some 4" wide .250 flat steel at that point in time.

yah the 3/16 was cheaper.
