work party, escondido

thanks John. i struggle with overhead/upside down welding, but im starting to figure it out. im pretty confident they'll stick at this point at least.

so i drove this thing around a couple times already, and so far so good except for the brakes grinding in the rear (at least that's what i hope it is). might get the rotors turned to see if that helps. one was pretty rusty.
one thing i noticed is that it isnt roasting tires all over like i expected. It used to spin them pretty easily with the 3.07's. even in second a little. with the 4.56's it barely breaks free, even in a corner when i'm on it. i wonder if the increased travel is helping keep the tire on the ground. it isnt the locker because it's an elocker and it's off. i dont see this as a bad thing, obviously traction is good. just an obervation. anyone else notice this when changing gears?

got the last of the welding done (i hope). pretty much ready to get the locker and shafts in the new axle and drop it in, hopefully tomorrow.

If the rear end has better flex and a softer ride. You should get better traction even with the lower gears. The suspension is keeping both tires planted now as appose to a tighter more floaty (if you will) feel to the rear. Not to mention aren't those bigger tires now then before? You have better suspension and more rubber on the ground, all that equals more grip! And grip is goooooooood!

same tires, still 31's right now

so i got the front axle in last night, only to find out that the knuckles are from an older d30 so they wouldnt work with my brakes. So we got it together as much as i could, and this morning i swapped the knuckles.
after that, i noticed the pinion angle was way off, and of course, there isnt enough adjustment on the radius arms to compensate, so i need to lengthen the uppers. nothing ever comes easy....

Who needs brakes?

assuming it drives ok, i am officially done with the hard stuff. all that's left is ebrake cables, locker wiring, and cutting off the last stock control arm bracket in the front. got the pinion angle set right and everything.

anyone want to do a quick afternoon run at lawrence welk today? want to do a little shakedown run. maybe even just hit the landing strip. i'd go alone, but then i'd probably get stuck.

no takers for lawrence welk tonight? even if i spent an hour out there i'd be happy, i just want to make sure the lockers work and there's no major issues with the suspension, that's all. jeep is pretty much ready, just wiring the locker for the rear.

If you didn't go today I could probably roll with you tomorrow afternoon if you want.
