Yes, he was going pretty slow but he tapped the brakes at just the wrong moment as he was coming over the top of the dune.

Was he at an angle? I can't make sense of how that would happen aside from trying to come down at an angle.

Nope, he went straight down the dune. The front tires dug in and he went over the front end. At the time he was only 18 years old and inexperienced in the dunes.

He was unhurt and eventually drove it all way home.
