ive searched and searched for places fun to go easy to moderate... i gotta stock height XJ with 235/75/15 bfg m/t's i know of rancheria road and ive took breckenridge road all the way up to the closure gate today in search for the back side of cow flat road =/... all the hills i climbed just ended for no reason so im kinda in search for something senic something fun and maybe some place i could camp out later in the spring/summer. when i went up rancheria road this last time the snow was to thick to make it all the way up to evans flat... i may try it again tomorrow ( sunday febuary 1st) but we shall see how things go and if i can get someone to come with me just in case i bury up in the snow =)

but if anyone has a place that i could explore or would even care to come along hit me up or post in here, im always down to hit up a near by trail.

I am havin the same problem up here. Most people just tell me to take the hour drive and try Rubicon Trail. I'm Crazy, not stupid. Best advice I have heard yet........Look it up in the books. You can find a book of all the AUTHORIZED trails in Cali. ranging from family fun to all out twisted trails. Hittin up Barnes and Noble tomorrow.

i gotta book yesterday of all the by ways by the beach from the top all the way to the bottom... here pretty soon imma get a book for all the northern trails... no wonder i never read books are expensive! lol

along rancheria there are some jeep trails... my buddy who has a yj and i are planning on going up there and checking them out. I have been up cow flat also. That road is to small for my taste. Up rancheria there is a place near evens flat called black gulch. Its realitevly easy. Also the sheep trail has a couple areas off of the road that you can climb up. Those are the only spots i really know of around here.

Yep, advocating illegal wheeling is against forum policy. I didn't delete it, but I would have, had it still been there when I logged on.

he was simply stating that if i wanted to go off road to go there, not to long ago those places were not illegal. but people getting hurt and butt hurt owners made it illegal.

i used to ride out there but not since it became illegal, actually i lied, i went out there once to teach my girl how to use 4wd cuz i didnt want to drive way out in the boonies to teach her.

Wasn’t being an ass. I was trying to help a local forum user out. Everything is closed around here. Id bet 90% of everyone on this board has in some way illegally wheel'ed. For example everyone that has ever run Miller Jeep trail in fraiser park either all the way through or from the NW entrance has illegally wheeled, because all the land off lock wood valley road is privately owned, and at 1 point the owners of the land filed complaints with the OHV park and had the old entrance closed, which is why the new entrance starts so far North of the trail head. Or coarse is you called or wrote the owner of the land and got permission you wouldn’t have done anything illegal. Anyone who used to wheel out at Mesa Marin was out there illegally, because they didn’t have permission to be out there from the owner(s), even though there was 100+ other people out there. Unless the land is publically owned, or you have permission from the property owner you are technically illegally wheeling.

Is it hard to shift the little 4wd lever when parked in your driveway?

It sounds like your idea of wheeling is firetrails, but if you want to upgrade, you might want to look into Johnson Valley. Then I think you might rub your fenders.

its not hard to shift the lever but to climb a rocky rutted hill and what tracks to look for, its only done by expierence... you cant just tell them avoid this and look for that and expect them to remember. and secondly what kind of idiot shifts their transfer case into 4wd on the street? didnt you read the sticker hidden under your sun visor.... shift into 4wd only on slippery surfaces,.

if you were teaching someone how to drive for the first time you going to tell them to slide the shifter from p to D and thats it? and if its a manual you going to tell them to push in the clutch put it in 1st and let out the clutch and hit the gas and actually expect them to know what the fk their doing or are you going to show them how to do it out in a parking lot / deserted road... idiot

still no excuse to illegally go offroading, no matter whether you were teaching someone or not. it reflects back on all of us, so don't get too upset when someone tells you it's not a good idea.

just fyi... at the time i went illegally... i wasnt aware it was illegal until i showed up at the store to see 2 dirt bike cops on lunch and made me aware it was illegal to ride anywhere except out off commanche road and further.

SOOO... i found some decent beginner/ moderate hill climbs out off rancheria today!... meaning i rubbed a tiny bit in some places but the climbs in some places wernt easy... some places i got one wheel off the ground and lost traction so i had to find an alternative line( the more and more this happens the more i hate open diffs lol )... yanno stuff like that, i'll post the pics here shortly no outside action shots but pics non the less

Where at? I would say lets go play today or tomorrow but it is hella raining lol. Lets play in the mud. The sheep trail gets really muddy when it rains like this
