What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Mixed day today.

Bought a new tire and got it mounted on the new wheel so the Saturn has spare now. Tried three places today to get a front end alignment and wasted 5 hours. Last me tried to shaft me and sell $150 in camber bolts for camber strut alignment it does not need and refused to align it after they took it apart, and left it further out of alignment that I had it just eyeballing it. Needless to say I am pissed.

Planning to build my own alignment hardware and do it myself. These front wheel drive new fangled beasts are a pain compared to jeeps.

Speaking of beasts, LOL, check out the tool I am working on :-)

Plant to check the AC on the 89 jeep this morning at sun rise.

On one good note my Snap-on brick arrived :D , but with a stuck and dead 9V battery. Had to pry it out of the case, was worried something was going to break, but I got it out, and it works like a charm so far.

That said the 1999 troubleshooting cartridge for jeeps arrived with an Asian only label on it. Hope they just screwed up or I will be real pissed in the mean time it sets me back time wise. Also I now head from old timers on the snap on tool site that I may need a 99 primary cartridge (about $80) to be able to use the 99 Transmission cartridge. Then I discovered I need special old style serial cable as the Jeep-1 cable will not work directly nor will it connect directly to the MT-2500 brick, so I just shelled out another $25 and a 4-5 day wait to able to test it out on any of my vehicles :rattle:

Still need to get to my shop and test the new tool cruiser54 made for me to remove that stubborn gas tank flange on the white 4x4 89 Jeep....

Bought a magnet electronic angle gauge tonight ($25 with Amazon prime :-) ) to use with the camber-toe in gauge ( two bolts and piece of angle iron LOL) I will build from the video link above. Too simple and too cheap to keep screwing around with alignment shop thieves/crooks scam artists and time wasters....

I have done more work on my rigs the last 8 weeks than year alone the last 15 years. :D

I think I may be getting caught up.

Hmm I may be able to use one of those a lot with all my woodworking...and being able to do my own camber would be a plus.

Replaced my oil filter adapter o rings...the largest one was non existant...only broke one wrench doing it, I was shocked that the torx actually could withstand that much torque. Now on to plugs snd valve cover gssket. Then an inspection sticker is in order. Now to figure out how much lift and how I want to obtain it..

Be sure to go with the permanent silicone gaskets, they last forever! Great investment. Indeed on the woodworking with that angle gauge tool.

I ran across a huge cache of old Renix era Wagoneer photos today.

Gotta love em, they looked awesome.

I need to restore that look on my Wagoneer.:rattle:

Got the A/C fixed on the 89 today. Just needed one can of 134a refrigerant (been about 6 years, so not bad on the leak rate). So far I dodge a bullet there I hope. It got nice and cool with just one can and pressures looks good.

Also got lucky starting on the 89 gas tank pump swap project. Thought the 9 month old (new) battery was dead by now from on use-sitting, but it worked and cranked the jeep. Plan the check the gas tank fluid level and hope to finally get that flange off tomorrow with Cruiser54s cool new custom tool.

Finished the AC repair on the 89 2WD for my daughter's visit next weekend. Son is Graduating Sunday, U of H, Physics major :-)

Retested the fuel pump and FP wiring and relay on last time. No joy, pump is dead. Tried and failed for the 4th time to get the damn fuel pump assy flange ring off the gas tank on the 89 4WD white jeep. Cruizers tool I tried needs some design changes for removal of the ring. Handles got in the way, could not try it.

Thinking we may need to drop the tank but so much rust under there worries me about the stud bolts???:shiver: Hammer and punch failed also.

Sorted and organized the tools.

Inspected and cleaned the CV joint outer boot tear. Plan to repair it/seal it in place, This should be interesting. Spent 4 hours last night online researching ways to do this, and ways not to it LOL.

Yesterday, re-ran my CB cable to my antenna in the back. I had it going under the bumper and went over a ledge and scraped my rear bumper over the ledge and snapped the cable. Now I ran it through a hole by the rear tail light. Much more betterer

I like when things go much more betterer. Makes your heart all warm and fuzzy, like how having an outer o ring on your oil filter adapter raises your oil pressure, that's much more betterer. Got my oil leaks un leaky unfortunately they only had a cork vc gasket, will have to change that later again. Who knew my 97 has a 95 engine...wonder what other suprises await...

Who knew my 85 Jeep diesel had an 81 Nissan diesel engine and transmission in it, and other surprises. LOL. "Like a box of chocolates, never know what your gonna get"

Just got to try out my new to me, used Snap-on MT-2500 rig on my 96 Ford, and, wait for it!!!!!!

My 89 Renix engine and AW4 transmission!!!!

The rig worked great on my 89 Renix era jeep, I love it!!!! It even gave me a lot of transmission data that made my day :-)

Told me which solenoids in the AW4 were on or off, etc.....

My front axle ripped it's lca brackets off

ep that sure sucks unless you were planning some suspension mods or an axle swap.

I think i may have all my oil leaks stopped maybe...now to move back to the tranny and rear diff. Also a rattling catalytic converter. Will i have to replace it before I get it inspected or not? I read what is required and I don't think so since it isn't throwing codes, guess I will find out. My kids are ready to go ride in the jeep!

It's a disconnect housing with gears that no longer match the rear, so it's getting swapped.

Chemsolder, I doubt a rattling cat would fail you, probably just the heat shield. Where are you at? An emissions county by any too

My oil pressure on the 89 Renix 2WD dropped from about 40 to 18 psi. Changed the STP oil filter, installed a K & N racing style filter (premium-like I normally use) and the pressure returned to 42 PSI. :yelclap:Filter must have been too dirty (had a lot miles on it). The pressure went back up with out touching the oil. Drained the oil later after confirming the oil pressure back to normal.

Broke the Vacuum line to the AC at the firewall that controls the AC/Heat-Outside air damper doors (AC was not blowing at all on MAX AC), figured it out and fixed it in 3 minutes :-) . So nice to so much about a rig that you can fix things as fast as they break :-)

Used my duct tape and engineering prowess party1: to figure out how to finally get a huge batch of stiff grease into a tiny CV joint boot cut before I seal the cut tomorrow and save the CV joint and boot.
