What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Brady I did loosen the fan bolts to move it a bit. Today or tomorrow I will try again... this time I'll remove the fan I can see where that helps. I'm just buying one at O'ReiLLY

I found it too hard to reinstall the fan bolts that way. Tilting the radiator to the front first at the top side only, makes the fan bolt removal and reinstall much easier and faster in the long run. In many cases just tilting the radiator back makes the shroud install easy with out even messing with the fan to clutch bolts.

Finally has a legit sticker on it. Even my dd Mazda is currently legit. See the Mazda instead?

Yes

If you're asking, you already know the answer

Took my hood spacers off. Woo.

Changed the rear main seal. And it's seeping at the front of the pan since I was awesome enough to strip out one of the bolts. Looks like I'm doing it again, but with more RTV!

Try a thread-cert? Stainless steel thread insert coil

All I got done was adding a new off-road park sticker to my collection. These are all parks that I've wheeled in. I had to revise my critera to allow for any park where I attended an official NAXJA event, but didn't have my Jeep.

posted this in my build thread but figured id repost here.

after much fighting, the bolts were finally removed.

6 tiny spotwelds on the corners of the bolt in an area prone to trap and keep moisture was a STUPID idea from jeep. especially without any access hole. at least a tabbed nut would make more sense. anyway, i digress. I am going to post some pictures of where i had to cut and create a separate thread so hopefully someone searching will find it and it will help them. I know i looked through countless threads without pictures or information clearly spelled out and there was a lot of quess work. Also part numbers for the nuts/bolts i used to replace it.

So anyway, after we got those out, the next discovery was that the replacement nuts i bought were 22mm, not a problem i have 22mm sockets. problem is the shallow socket was too shallow and the deep was too deep to fit into the frame rail at the back to get at the bolt that way. So i ended up cutting the bottom of the pocket same as the front one and the wrench slipped up in there without issue.

Once that was done we threw the leafs in with the alignment wedges to correct pinion angle and bolted it together.

we ran out of daylight and i was beat so we cleaned up the tools. was going to work on it more sunday but was feeling under the weather. still snapped a pic

the to do list.
center axle and install track bar
set castor and toe
brake lines (nuts are frozen into the soft lines in the front, rear is disconnected from the body but not the axle hardlines)
rear shocks
final torque pass on nuts/bolts

I still have some louvers for the hood (as well as a little custom touch im going to do), trans cooler, fix my frame rail end and mount bumper and then the rock sliders.

just feels nice to be mostly done with the lift.

So are those now Dead-Bolts? LOL

haha yea you could say that....

i feel a lot better about the project now that its sitting on all 4 wheels and tires. going to work on it some tonight and in the evenings this week to try and get it sorted enough to drive this weekend.

inspection is up at the end of april so i need to get some miles on it and make sure everything works and then get it inspected. Next year it is yeared out of the sniffer and goes safety only which will be nice.

After three tries I finally have a fully functional head light switch...and we replaced the turn signal switch (new one arrived today) after doing a postmortem on the steering column and got my turn signals working again all on the 87 Wagoneer 4wd.

And replaced two bad horns on the 89 2wd beast.

The 87 Wagoneer is back on the DD list, 89 needs a front alignment check (toe in checked or set) and two new front tires. Then to find out why the A/C clutch has stopped turning on, fix that issue and back to DD action.

Got a custom hose made up today and a 500 psi liquid filled gauge for checking and testing the Ford Taurus transmission pressures per the transmission manual I bought to determine what exactly is and is not wrong with it.

Ordering balljoint-steering things and struts with springs for the front end of the Saturn, next major project.

Received the new OEM, lower spring pressure clutch pressure plate throw out bearing and pilot tool kit for the 84 diesel jeep's Nissan 5 speed manual transmission. Need to find a good cheap local shop that will swap it out on a rack for me.

Still need to solve the 87 soft brake pedal issue but for now they work.

Someday I need to pull the ring off the gas tank on the white 4x4 I bought 3.5 years ago and never got on the road yet. Fixed three things, then the battery died, the fuel pump died....:tears:

My neighbor has an oldsmobile buckaneer(?) for sale, looks a lot like a Cherokee, but a few obvious differences. Has the liberty style tail gate. Back side looks like a truck LOL. but it is an SUV. Never ever seen one before, must be super rare. Looks like 2wd, rear drive, with a pair of square Wagoneer style head lights, just 2 of them, must a be third style, 3 pin like the Cherokees but the small square shape like the Wagoneer bulbs.

Only asking $700, Last vehicle I bought from them was a 73 ford LTD with a 351 Cleveland V-8 engine with only 24,000 original owner miles when it was 23 years old. It got me through my last 3 years in College at U of H. The AC even worked. All I had to fix, once I figured it out (it was running lean and the exhaust manifold was cherry red at night) was the vacuum advance was rusted and not moving. Had 89,000 miles on it 12 years later when I sold it for $500. Only paid $600 for it. It was a gas guzzler!!!! But it sure had power.

Bravada is a rebadged blazer. Sturdy trucks and the 4.3 is pretty rock solid

That gen has the cpi 4.3.... Injector probably needs replacing which is expensive at a shop but cheap to diy

My 87 waggy is back in DD service :wave1:

Just received a new OEM clutch kit Saturday for the too hard to work for my legs now, heavy duty clutch I installed over 15 years ago (which still works) on my 85, 4 banger diesel. Let's see what the OEM pressure plate feels like :eyes:

But now I need to find a local shop that will swap it for me at my rates in a reasonable amount of time :guitar:LOL.

Making some progress here. Got the tests run on the transmission fluid pressures on the Ford Taurus, 96 that has a transmission that works perfectly for days then just takes a week off refusing to stay in gear, harsh shifts. The test date between cold and hot transmission fluid was stark, making me think and hope it might be a cheap electrical issue with the pressure control solenoid valve critter they use (about $35). I suspect this transmission does not have a manual limp mode :tears:, so major surgery may be needed to get to the dang solenoid pressure regulating valve. Gotta love the AW4s electronic bypass mode!!!

Got to the local JY Saturday and thought I had scored 2 sets of lighted - mirror visors, light blue and tan for my rigs, but the 94-97 jeep visors are about 4-5" shorter than the 85-89 jeeps so they do not fit. I am putting them up for sale, or trade. So I still need three sets of good 85-89 visors (do not need to be lighted, just need to have good, non-rotting covers still) I need tan and blue, I think 2 sets of blue, and one tan.

There were only 3 jeeps left in the entire yard :tears:, 94, 96 both red, and a 97 blue. No Grand Chreokees at all left. They are getting hard to find here. Any other Houston junk yards you guys know of with a good lot of jeeps, especially 87-90? or 85?

Did find a Saturn we are going back Monday to salvage parts from on the steering column...

I also scored a combo valve brake light switch Saturday :-) and some window gaskets, but I still need several window gaskets, front and rear doors, and one for the Wagonner is kinda special and the front door wing windows that work, and need those special gaskets. Hard to find. I ended up with some spare window gaskets I may not need, not sure yet.

Oh, there was a class 1 (or is it class III?) it is an extra heavy duty factory towing hitch already pulled and ready to grab in perfect shape!!!! PM if you want details....
