What to expect as a Moab Noob?

Mi ranchito is OK. It is expensive. The sit down places are disappointing. They have nothing but gringo salsa. Thing taste good but it is just not like something you find further south.

Also you should import your own booze. Someone was bagging on moab brewery but it is one of the better places. Go for their wing special. It is Utah so draft beer will be 4%abv. The diner is bad ass. Go get the green chili omelette with bacon!

Well since this thread is in the 30th anniversary area I'm guessing Fall Fling.

La Hacienda is good if you like a drink with your meal.

All of Moab sucks for service. It always has. They probably have the worst workforce in the state. Nothing but methheads and hippies. It's probably the biggest downfall of that area.

That pretty much goes for any tourist area I've been in. Sometimes it's better in fine dining establishments, but even there you will sometimes get the skier/surfer/mountain biker/druggie/etc bum that's just looking for some quick cash for their next fix.

Although, we did enjoy good service from the heavily tattooed and pierced, shave-headed girl at the Beach Hippie Grill in Kona.

Honestly, I'm camping(which means there will be a grill and cooler with me) so I could care less about restaurants but i'm sure i'll be up for grabbing some mexican food one night...speaking of that i'm gonna call in some riiiiight now! :)

Make it a point to spend some money in town with your NAXJA schwag on. It helps us a lot if the vendors see we bring the green.

I camped... Planned to bbq the whole time..

that lasted.. no nights.. Pasta jays, Zax, La Hacienda.. etc etc won..

Lol. I see this lasting about one night.

You're both probably right. Just depends on my extra money at the time! :D I'm guessing there won't be any restaurants on the Lockhart canyon run....

Haven't been to Moab, but when we are at So Cal fest we always cook something. Usually get a small group in on meals and alternate who does what. MRE's work well too (=

That's how it is at WinterFest. maybe run into town and grab lunch and hit the trails again.

The difference is in Moab you ARE in town. Slick rock campground is within walking distance of three restaurants.

You go there planning on cooking but everyone gives in to peer pressure when six of your buddies are like "Hey, we are going to Pasta Jays, come with us"

There have been trips when we have taken the camper or motor home when we have planned every meal to eat at camp. Even pre-prepared and froze meals only to bring it all home with us because we always find someone we would rather socialize with than being by ourself cooking at home.

That's not to say a group won't get together and throw a BBQ in camp. It happens too but almost without fail you will find yourself eating with groups of friends in town a lot more than you realize.

Can't do the BBQ anymore, they tore it down!!

One thing to keep in mind is when you leave the trail there's a good chance you'll drive right through town, see something, and make your mind up.

Its gonna be the trip of a lifetime for me so I'll probably eat out a couple nights when we aren't out on the Lockhart canyon run, This is still 6 months away so i'm sure a lot will change by then in my planning.

I'm with Flexd, this is gonna be a trip of a lifetime for me too. I want to take in as much as I can.
