What did you do to your XJ today

So everytime I drove over a pothole or speed bump since I installed the rear springs. (Sat). I would get a metal krinkling sound from the left leaf. Today after work I checked the shackle bolt and it was a little loose. So I tightened it. With my 3/4 drive wrench. FAIL.... I over tightened the nut and it stripped the threads. I was at work. Sware to god it took 30min to find a nut that would work. I got it tightened at went home. All the way down columbia blvd. From st. Johns to i-205 not a problem. Then raceing a lifted yota to get on the freeway there was a bump. KRINKLE KRINKLE as the suspesion cycled. So I drove it accordingly all the way home. Got home and tightened it some more with the 1/2in drive. Then put another nut on. JUST IN CASE.! Drove it 30mph over some speed bumps and no krinkle. Hopefully I got it. We shall see.

Here is the aftermath of stripping that nut.

Yup same thing happend to me Aaron, I use to use my freinds impact on the u-bolts all the time and after I replaced the springs a couple of time the nuts had enough. I would replacing the u=bolt and the nuts all together.

It was the shackle bolt nut. If it still does it tomorrow then I'll replace the bolt. But the bolt threads still look good. The nut wasn't exactly high grade. The new one is tempered grade 8. Should be good.

??????? I reuse mine all the time hu maybe that explaines everthing????? I knew nylocks are not reusable but u-bolts????

I got a buddy that makes and sells u bolt eliminators that can. Add lift or not and allow you to move the axle a inch foward nutral or inch rear. For 85

Yeah I have those on my 9" now, only mine is set up to be 1" foward neutral or to move the axle 1 1/2" to the rear, and they use pinch nuts which are also not reusable. :)

take 3 and I now have the right ubolt straps installed, and i finally remounted the fender that came off the stocker at nwf so that another tree can have the satisfaction of knocking it off at a later time.

Jeep did something that it hasn't done since November.

It started and ran!

(only ran it for 20 seconds though - no coolant)

by this time next week, I need it to be on the trailer behind me at 70 miles per hour and me about 30 minutes from the California border.
