What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

Once upon a time, you could buy one of these at your local auto parts.

The end.

I need to figure out how to mount it. Think I am just going to go normal and use a bolt on the bottom of frame stiffeners. Will install it once I get the leak issue fixed. also think I am going to clearance the crossmember for my driveshaft a bit more. I wish it was still summer break. Should have been working on my jeep instead of hanging with girls. DOH

LOL @ your avatar David

I'm pretty sure my issue is trans related. When it bogged down the other day I immediately put it in neutral and it instantly started idling normal, revved the engine and it was still fine which, IMO, rules out fuel delievery as the issue. .As soon as I put it back in gear it immediately started to bog down and die.The speedo is still going bonkers as well but its throwing no codes.I've already changed the VSS, TPS, and Trans output speed sensor. Are the TCUs interchangeable from year to year, because thats my next possible round of troubleshooting.

'97 only for the TCUs, trannys, and gauge clusters.

I have a couple extra TCUs, I'm sure Troy does as well. Keifer might have a line on one or two.

I actually left one at the U-pull on my last trip.

Yeah the TCU is exclusive to the '97. Different harness connector and mounting bracket design. A '98+ just doesn't work.

If you need one Jeff, I'll get the one I have to ya and get another from Hypoid for a spare as I only have the one good one.

The TCU was causing goofy gauge cluster operation on mine as well except the speedo never had a problem........ :dunno: But yeah, mine would idle ok, sometimes a high idle, but putting it into gear would cause it to run like shit and pretty much stall when trying to drive it until I swapped in a good TCU.

Going to try and lose some weight.

I am considering doing the following to achieve around 500+ lbs
Making my subs removable. Around 100 lbs added or removed.

Selling my arb bumper. Replace with T&T front winch bumper.
This should remove around 3 to 400 lbs. Not sure on the exact weight difference.

Adding T&T stiffeners. +60lbs or so.

Put my spare on the roof rack and remove my spare tire carrier. Around 80 to 100lbs

These are just guestamates.
But doing this I may lose 500lbs.
Would this be worth doing?
