Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Friday left about 1pm to go to Crawford's Campground and spend the weekend wheeling. Arrived at Deanna's house at about 1:45. As we were loading I noticed I had a flat..... ugh! Spare had two boots and not something I want to drive on for 4 hours. So we went to a tire store and had a new tire mounted and then headed out. I had called Clemson 4 Wheel Drive in the am to see fi they had warn solenoids in stock. We headed out and at 5:30, their closing time, we were still about 30 min out. So D called them and they said they were working on a customers vehicle and would wait. If they got done before Joe, a guy I know form offroadsc.com, said he'd meet me with it. We arrived about 6:15 and they were still there. 15 - 20 later after talking 4x4 we were off again. We headed on up and finally arrived about 9:30 to Crawford's Campground. Crawford's if you guys don't know is where the Crawl was originally held from 01 - 08. Felt like being home again..... Saturday GaMike and I headed out to do some more ridding and scouting. We found some more stuff and still did not get to run "the whole park" in a day. Sunday some old friends I latterly have not seen sense 07 or 08 came up with their son and a friend. I found a couple rock gardens and rock faces and wheeled some. Then this happened:

We decided to ride out the "Tellico Rd' trail which is 12 miles long. Found another rock garden that is being built but marked that is huge! Kind of like Middle Rock Garden but two or 3 times longer.

Monday we all loaded up and headed home. On the way down the mountain we saw 3 rock bouncer type buggies heading up the mountain. I'd love to see some video and pictures of what they ran....

Did you take any pictures of the new stuff?

Yes some of it will put them in the thread. Some of it still has trees and saplings still in it but it's marked. Did you guys run the rock garden on Rocky Road?

Friday was D's Birthday do so we went to dinner and Seminar Brewing. Had a great time.
Saturday Glenn and I worked on greenie! It was Ben and Glenn's 17th Birthday! My parents came up form Florida and took us all out to eat.
Sunday greenie had a leak in the atf lines at the radiator so I fixed that. It had a wicked shake at 55 - 60. I pulled all the tires and cleaned all the mud caked in the inside. I now am so not a fan of 5.9 rims..... The rotor's even had mud in them. Still have a shake in the jeep at 55 - 60 though. I guess it's off to the tire shop to have the tires checked. One is loosing air anyway! Oh yea I planted 3 blueberry bushes Sunday am too!

I was on my way home from the zoo with the girls today and went past 4WP and some club called Jeep Owners of America was doing an event with an RTI ramp and a car crush. We pulled over and checked it out. I'd never done an RTI ramp before and was curious so we went home - I was in the Grand Cherokee - and got the XJ and went back. I pulled up on the ramp and scored a 481 on a 35 degree ramp. All the other Jeeps there were big steroid JKs on 37s with all those fancy bolt on lights and stuff. Well, turns out I pulled the high score of the day - my little XJ on 31s - and won a Smittybilt recovery kit. Kind of cool since it was all done on a whim. I will tell you, those JK guys paid the old XJ a little more attention after the ramp than before. While I was on the ramp I heard one kid tell his dad - "that Jeep when way higher than yours!"

Picture kind of sucks - apparently I had some weird filter turned on my iPhone.

Had my jeep out on the trails again today, sometime recently they busted out all the good rocks on Iron Gap Rd, so they can get logging trucks through there. Very very disappointing, it used to be a great trail.

Still I managed to twist and crack yet another steering gear output shaft, of course all the fluid drains out the seal when that happens, so no power steering. Plus I think my transmission is finally done for, won't stay in 2nd or 3rd gear, just pops right back out.

Do you have enough time to mess with it before Crawl?

Replaced bent tie rod, cleaned and greased front-end, got track-bar centered installed LED's. Added NAXJA Member sticker!

I picked up a decent hood from Ed's place that came off Brian's old XJ shell. The small dent was easy to fix. I actually managed to polish out all the tree branch rubbing, but the clear coat is too far gone to salvage. So I will repaint it once the garage is free.

Friday: Drove to Vero Beach, Florida in the TDi. 39.75 MPG @ 80 MPH cruise.
Saturday: Saw the niece graduate, hit up Wax Records and bought some new old vinyl. Helped set up for the Nieces party. Visited one of my closest friends from HS.
Sunday: Drove home. 40.75 MPG @ 75 MPH cruise.

I'm liking the newish TDi. Over 500 miles on a tank that cost about $40 or less to fill up! Yea I can live with that!

Too bad it can't tow a Jeep.

Too bad it can't tow a Jeep.

No Doubt! I'd like to give the Grand Diesel a try. The 3.0L from the 08 and 09 is supposed to get about 30 on the highway and be able to tow. I think I remember reading it had a 7500 lb tow rating.
