Weekend is over...what did you get done?

That pretty dang cool.

I have turned wrenches on the LJ almost every day for the last two weeks. The sooner it's done the sooner I get to convert the XJ to 4wd.

Doug and Sam came by my parents today to drop off my tcase that made it's way here from Ohio over the last month. Got home and started working on getting it ready and found a puddle of transmission fluid under the Jeep. Guess i'll be changing the output seal this week too.

Need to find that seal and some snap rings for the SYE so I can hopefully get this thing back together and drive it up to Uwharrie this coming weekend.

Found this:

So my battery relocation project got stopped mid relocating....

Leaf spring mount on the passenger side was coming up through the floor.

Got the cancer all cut out...

Started to swap out front u-joints and realized that my short shaft and my trail spare short shaft are both the small joints, while my long shaft and trail spare long shaft are the big joints. I already dismantled my primary short shaft, so I'll toss the spare in until I can get to the junk yard to pick up a new primary big joint shaft.

Added another to the collection. This one supposedly has a good 130k engine in it but it wasn't running. I got it running and now I have a pretty loud tapping going on. I'm hoping for a stuck lifter or something simple. It has good oil pressure at idle.

Stuck a sticker on the Jeep so I can be like all soccer mom SUV's.

Spent most of yesterday cleaning trees and brush off of the hill between my house and the pond. Today I'm sore. That was too much like work.

I watched a couple episodes of season 4 of MASH. That was the most exciting part of my weekend.

It was also the least exciting so all in all...nice quiet easy weekend!

A while back I visited Will while he was building his monster. I saw he was using a Chicago Electric (Harbor Freight) plasma cutter that he'd borrowed from a friend. He said it worked great, so I did a little digging and found a few articles and forum threads about how good they are for the money, but now they've changed them and the newest units (model # 62204) aren't built as well as the old ones (95136 & 60767) were. So, long story short, I found a guy in Delaware ( http://www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com/default.html ) that had a few NOS units for a good price, and he offers the same warranty as if I'd bought it from HF.

This was the thread that pretty much convinced me it was worth a shot, and if nothing else I know where to send it for repair if it ever needs it.

So, needless to say I have a new toy for the shop

Passed some heavy equipment on the way to Memphis the other day.

This morning on my way into Land Between the Lakes I was entering the interstate in a construction zone, with PacificEd and High2By right behind me. The entrance lane ended abruptly and there was a semi that decided he wasn't interested in moving over and he sideswiped me. He missed the Jeep proper, and frankly all I saw was a blur of blue cab and my mirror exploding all over the side of my Jeep. It was a scary way to start the drive - especially since my 6 year old was sitting on the driver's side right behind me.

The clean up went very well - look for a report in the "Land Use Forum" within the week - and the day ended with my 6 year old winning an annual pass from Turkey Bay and my 9 year old and me winning a free night's camping.

That's the upgraded "swivel" feature. It's fine.
