Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Enjoying a nice warm night out in the shop after playing daddy daycare all day with a sick baby. Sipping on a good German ale, and tying in the unibody to the exo cage. Lots more work to do....

If it works... go with it! I have had to come up with some 'creative engineering' over the years.

I wish my welds looked as good as yours. I've been welding since i was 8 years old and my welds still look like globs of bubble gum. But they hold so I guess its one of those "function over form" situations.

Door lock actuator motor went out in the WJ about 2 months ago. Been waiting for one to pop up in the junk yard. A 2002 hit the yard on Monday so I went and grabbed the entire door for $50.

Swaping the actuators took about 45 minutes. Best part is (besides having 4 working locks) that I have a spare door...you know...just in case.

I've parked Jeeps on top of leaf springs before so I could stand on the ratchet to break the shackle bolts free. 3500 LB vice :D

ill take a picture of my "custom" cheater bar tomorrow.... its the hook piece of a 20ft mooring hook off of our old saltwater boat, its curved enough that i can make an entire half turn on an xj leaf spring bolt or stuck unit bearing bolt... theres some stuff i couldnt have done without it

Well on my 0404 powersrtoke I finally took off old exhaust and replaces with straight 4" wow what a performance difference I gained over 7psi of boost and the whistle u just have to like it!

Glad to read so many people consider the leaf/shackle bolts a challenge.

When we did my leaf install it took 4 of us tag-teaming those bolts, after a steady week of PB Blaster to them.
It was like, you crank a while, I'll crank a while. Still took a loooooong time. I'm just thankful the damn things didn't snap.

I use "bubba" to break those loose with. Bubba is a 6' long 1" i.d. pipe. works good even with the shackle bolts and the frame/shackle bolt. For the uni-bearing bolts, a 3/8" breaker bar and a small version of bubba works.

You gotta love levers that create a mechanical advantage.

Nice! Definitely want to see a picture of this...

I do like the sounds of a straight piped Powerstroke. My buddy's 7.3 is straight piped and sounds straight awesome when you get on it.

I agree. Jeeps make their own music. I was on the interstate once, in my XJ, with the window down and the radio on when I heard a funny noise start that I had never heard before. I listened intently for about 2 minutes to see if I could source that noise, before I realized that it was the tamburine playing in the background of a Brad Paisley song!
yeah, i'm wierd about listening to songs with rythmic tapping and such in either of my cars. sometimes the song stops but that sound carries on to the next one, then i break down, lol.:scottm:
such is the life of old cars....

Jared (scarylilguy) ordered-up the best breaker bar available when he did his rear springs..... a 6', old guy, who wasn't afraid to get a hernia to help-- good thing he pays in beer, or the old guy woulda bitched more....
