Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Was going to do the same for my tag lights them the ones for motorcycles?
Are they auctually bright enough
And ebay ones?

They are the ebay ones. Not sure on the brightness as I've only seen them during the day. Hopefully I can convince the Italian import office to work today and I will have it tonight. I'll take some night shots for you.

Loki why would it not be legal for you to hang here? We welcome'd Tyler with his Flattie... ;)

I feel like a high schooler on his first date after getting his license. Jeep passed inspection. Turd tried to say the Jeep had to be stock. I told him he ok'd it based on photos 6 months ago and he should do the inspection or we could talk with the base commander. He didn't check emissions, didn't care there was no rearview mirror, and didn't notice the hazards didn't work.

First wheeling photos in 8 months coming this weekend.

So, he was suggesting that there are no lifted vehicles in Italy?

It's hard to explain. See, the inspection official can't tell you something is illegal. They can tell you your vehicle is unsafe, and fail it for that, but other laws like tint laws (don't think they have them, just an example), bumper height, fender size, etc. will be handled by the Carabinieri.

If you are driving, and the cops/Carabinieri decide that your vehicle is breaking the law, they will seize it. Then you have to go to Italian court and fight to get it back.

Everything here is done 15 different ways, depending on the weather, time of day, cups of coffee involved, etc.

I should note, 100% of all mods, must be done by a registered shop. 100%. You can't put on different tires without a shop doing it. You can't put a bumper on without a shop doing it. Everything here has to be documented and taxed (this is the key, being that they are very socialized, tax revenue and avoiding it, is big business).

This is insane. I had no idea. Boy, that wouldn't go over very well in the US.

Wow! That crazy. I could visit but I sure as hell couldn't live there.

I'll be honest. Americans don't have nearly as many freedoms as Italians. Cops aren't here to arrest you, they are here to help you if you need it. There isn't really an "trespassing" issue. Italians all want to share what they have, so if you want to bike their mountain, bring it on, they will open the gate for you. Speeding tickets? Please. I've never seen a cop giving one. They aren't here to punish citizens. The food is great.

The main negative is that life is slower. Once I gave up the idea that junk needed done yesterday, life is 100 times better here than stateside. I do have some perks that citizens don't have though. My gas is at US rates. My rent is paid by the DoD and I get a cost of living allowance for junk being so expensive. I wouldn't want to be a citizen the way the economy and tax system works.

On the mod thing, just find a buddy that owns a shop, do all the work there, have him sign off on it.

You got that right!

I'll shoot you a text when I get off work in an hour or so. They didn't give me a car this time so i'm pretty much at the mercy of whoever picks me up/takes me home every day.

Cool. No worries, I can pick you up, just trying to figure out the drive time and what we should do. Hiking is sparse up there. Not sure I'm ready to drive that far in the XJ, so probably no wheeling.

Loki,

Can you send rocks/sand through the post office back to the states?

Ya, don't think that's a problem. Why?

2 reasons:

1. I left my big bottle of sand in Pisa when I visited years ago,
2. I'm a nerdy geologist and love big bags of sand and rocks.

1. I live in Pisa. Is the bottle somewhere I can find it, like the woods or something?
2. I'm down with weird fetishes, I guess. I do a ton of hiking(trekking as it's called everywhere but the US). Any thing specific you're looking for? PM specific and your address and I'll see if I can feed your fantasies.

No, I left it on a beach and it was probably 15 years ago.

Yes! I'll send you some info via PM.

Side comment that nothing do with anything:
Dont ask BigA any questions about colors.. he's color bliind. As we all found out yesterday in the SEC chat!

No, I left it on a beach and it was probably 15 years ago.
so you're saying it's probably still there, since it didn't have the appropriate tax stamp on it and no one else is dumb enough to pick it up without that?

:dunno: :looney:

Can't say I know what duty and tax would be on a bottle of sand off the top of my head lol. Doesn't exactly fall into the "gearbox machinery" & "spare parts" catagories I bring stuff in as lol.
