Weekend is over...what did you get done?

The frame rail is made up of layers of sheet. The bolts pass through one layer into another that the weld nuts are welded onto. I found this when I trashed the new jeep a couple years ago and had to rewweld the whole steering box area. Confirmed it with Yellowxj who had the same thing happen to him.

What's the significance of this?

I left my sway bar in place as a sort of ghetto skid plate / crossmember. The end links aren't connected to the axle and it just hangs there, I've landed on it instead of my harmonic balancer / front of my oil pan before. So it stays.

The bolts help to "hold" the sheets together. That is what we theorized. Even though they are spot welded they do help to secure the area. When I got the 94 that whole area was fine but after a year or so of wheeling with the bolts out mine started to crack. the first crack was on the bottom and the bottom steering box bolt was begingin to pull through. The crack was right through where one of the sway bar bolts was supose to be. I made plates for the entire area. Inner bottim and outter and one weekend Andy and I fixed my cracks and reinforced the entire area.

I'm not gonna open the box up. I got the pump from the PAP so it could be bad too. I may go with a Durango box and see if that helps any. If I do get one of these, then I may open the box just to see what's inside.

I stumbled through doing mine. Kit was only $50 at advanced but I'd gladly pay a pro to do it now.

Did several things this afternoon.

Went to play with the fresh Baby. This is my uncles 3rd son. Just popped out this morning.

Then we got home and carved Pumpkins. You'll see them in the other thread I started.

After all that I had a little spot of rust on my roof and decided to fix it. Plus, I was having a hard time painting the top side of that section of the cage.

Once I get a chance to run by the shop up the road I'm going to grab some .5x.5 angle and make a frame around the nice new hole in the roof and brace it all back up so it don't flop in the wind like a piece of bacon. Then I'll make me a nice cover to go over the hole and seal it up so my hair don't get wet and the seats don't dry rot. I haven't quite figured out how I'll attach the cover to the hole yet... Maybe some small bolts? It won't need to be quickly removable.

Eventually(probably never), I'll get around to making a canvas snap on deal to cover the hole in the back. I never drive this POS on the road and the heat and air don't work so it don't have to be water/air tight in the back.

It was quite difficult to do with a sawzall and make it look decent. I figure the angle frame will cover up any imperfections... because this is a show Jeep of course...

I have a couple pieces of canvas from the back of a Humvee and a LMTV tarp I would part with for this......... I think I have a tan and a green piece from the Humvee. They have a "window" in the center.

i am..... on yours im planning on raising and widening the halo hoop and stitching the remaining roof "frame" to it. that way your roof will retain some structure (for opening and shutting doors) and youll have a little more noggin room, then we can mount a c channel to the front bar for the top and snaps running down the sides.... its gonna be sexy

Doug, you make a good point. Since I cut so much out of my roof im going to have the brace up the b and c pillars well horizontally near the top. I had originally planned to only brace the roof so it doesn't flop around but I didn't think about side to side forces. The b and c pillars of the cage are close enough to brace from. Should work nicely.

Ordered canvas, clear vinyl, velcro and double stick tape for cage velcro grab bars from a wrangler for less than $120 will be enough for top and to cover my tube doors
If u dont get humvee top
