Weekend is over...what did you get done?

installed my front locker, threw away my front swaybar, did some test-wheelin, and argued with myself about welding the rear, buying an available rearend with a mini-spool, or just dropping the cashola for another aussie.... i know i won't be going any larger than 32's with the dana turdy5, and i haven't broken one yet, so i might just weld it and hope for the best. the last one held up pretty good through some serious floggin.

just got the tow bar fitted up on the jeep, just need one more longer bolt for the sway bar mounting brackets because thats where i based my mounts.

then a peice of 2x2 across the front, and welded my impromptu "d" rings to the 2x2 and the tow bar pins to those. its a little sloppy, i may drill out the bar to accomodate a 1" pin instead of the 5/8 hitch pin.

got the exhaust tip put on the truck, bed swapped out, putting the ladder rack back on tomorrow, then just need to cover the sides with plywood so when i set my canopy on top it is protected from the elements,.

have all new ball joints for the truck to swap out then have aligned, also need to drop the trans from the jeep again because the internal slave i JUST BOUGHT is leaking like crazy.

running out of time, plan on heading out of town on sunday. fingers crossed

could very well be the box.... is the fame shifting? sams frame was shifting a bit i think it spit one of the little internal supports. i added more bolts to the bumper plate and it helped....

where's your caster at right now btw?

I need a steering box brace. I know that would help but the stock spacer is still intact right now. I can't see any shifting but I guess it could be.

As for caster angle, IDK. I don't have an angle finder. It's whatever Tyler set it for I hope. I need to get a measurement on it though to see if it's changed any. I know the upper arm bushing is shot. I have one ordered from Andy and when it comes in I'll change it and see if that affects it any.

I'd look at the box Mark. My buddy just had to replace the one in his stock WJ last month. Got to the point where he couldn't turn left anymore, that's how tight the steering was.

Is there a way to "check" the box?

To be honest i'm not sure. I suppose you could open it up and see if there's anything obviously messed up, but i've never had one open before so I wouldn't really know what to look for in terms of damage.

If you do replace the box, good opportunity for a Durango steering box upgrade!

must be something about pink. even the girl at lowes ask if i needed some help when i was getting my paint ask me if i was going to pain them pink.she said you will cover them with mud anyway so why not..lol..noooooo they are white..lmao

How noisy is your front Aussie?

I emptied a couple cans of paint on my cage. I HATE painting tube! There's overspray EVERYWHERE! Now I have to go back with thinner and take it all off.

Tons more stuff I'd love to do.

This wisdom tooth extraction is kickin my butt.
clean it off with rocks!

Tim, my front aussie is making a horrible racket now that my diff has leaked a lot of its lube out. It was pretty quiet till this week.

I believe it. Like I said mine only had a quart of fluid in it (another reason why it's good to check/change all fluids when buying new components that you don't know the history of). Putting new fluid in helped a little bit, pulling the front drive shaft made it quiet as can be.

so tim, do you plan to run your front shaft again??? lol

my locker is noisy when I park at the Walgreens, or at the Wal-Mart
the spaces are straight on at walgreens and angled at Wally world, if that tells you anything. I have learned to ignore mine, till it binds up and unloads with a BANG. I take it out in the field at my grandpa's on occasion to make sure it still works.

need to check diff fluids pretty soon....... thanks for the reminder!!

Yeah I will. Especially with winter almost here I like having the Jeep ready to go for whatever I want to do with it. Whether that be bad weather here, or one of many trips to the mountains I usually make. It's got 161K on the original u-joints and centering ball, so i'm going to rebuild it while I have it out.

From the little bit I tested it out a couple of weeks ago, i'm in love with it. Lockers make a big difference! And when I had the cover off looking at it and messing with it, I was really impressed at how well it seemed to be put together.

Seriously. I got further with second gear and slight throttle in the mj locked in the front than I would have with a full throttle assault in the xj... same tires, same gears, worse breakover angle.

Did you reinstall the bolts that held the front sway bar on?

I would discourage opening the box unless you ahve done it before and know what to expect. I have done it and will NOT do it again. A good way to test it IMHO is to get someone to steer it lock to lock while you watch the box for movement and the listen to it as best you can. I'm sure you know what a whiny pump sounds like. If you put a new pump on it could not be rebuilt right... highly unlikely but it's possiable. If it's hit or miss on the power assist I'd go with the pump first. If it's a JY unit or one you had that was from another jeep I'd go with a new unit before I even thought about messing with the box. If you need a box I have 2 or 3 laying around... problem would be shipping. But then again I do need to get that tailgate up to you.

I did this simply so i didn't lose the bolts. Curious why you ask...
The frame rail is made up of layers of sheet. The bolts pass through one layer into another that the weld nuts are welded onto. I found this when I trashed the new jeep a couple years ago and had to rewweld the whole steering box area. Confirmed it with Yellowxj who had the same thing happen to him.

I'm not gonna open the box up. I got the pump from the PAP so it could be bad too. I may go with a Durango box and see if that helps any. If I do get one of these, then I may open the box just to see what's inside.
