Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Nice Manche! What are your thoughts about a supercharged 3.8 swap? I know a guy in Chattanooga that could probably tackle that for you. Rumor has it he even put a LS2 Vette engine into a Cherokee! :wave1:

If he works for beer, bacon and cheese. I could live with a GTP motor! :D

Flexd couldn't handle all that power. Rumor has it he's swapping a 1.6L from a Chevy Tracker into it for a little more umph.
Nope, Sold the tracker for twice what I paid for it! :D

i heard he was pulling the briggs and stratton out of the mower for fuel mileage

:roflmao:

Welp I finally have some significant car related stuff to post up. Last weekend was a busy car weekend for me.

After spending some time with the fam at the Discovery Center in Murfreesboro I worked on:
Fiona's Navigator
New tires
New front brakes
New tie rod link
New driver's door handle
Fixed passenger window
Installed 4 Alpine type s 5x7's

mbogosia's new BMW
Installed keyless entry

Customer's FJ
Wingnutooa swung by and helped be get the timing and carb tuned.

Search and Restore
Picked up a couple of sets of kickpanels for the project

My XJ
Picked up and installed a new tranny cooler.

did i leave my "bench grinder" on the front of the fj?

Brakes on mother in laws accord
Put in her new vanity/sink
Went to the JY for an electric fan... no luck..... But I did find a gas tank skid chillin on the ground next to the jeep. :)

I got to tell you. This place is awsome!!!!!!!! I have been working on....strugglin with....beatin on....cussing out.....my daughters '89 MJ. Last night I got on chat with a couple of SEC peeps and we talked and there was some brainstorming going on and when I got off chat I had a couple of things that I needed to try on the MJ to see if they would make it run. Well.... THEY DID!!!

Thanks to UNCC_99XJ, Shorty, Cottontail, and PacificEd I got the Jeep running tonight. I had started replacing parts, read...throwing money at it, and kept coming up blank. I was at my witts end and out of money but with a little advice and help of some guys I've never met, the Jeep's running and the stress level at the house is way down. THANKS GUYS!!!!!!
Turns out the coil "bracket" wasn't getting a good ground. One of the bolts was loose and the there was some corrosion on it. I took the bolts out and cleaned up everything with a wire brush then reassembled everything. I also took the ground off the side of the block and cleaned it and tightened it back up. Turned the key and voila the ole Jeep fired up and she runs smoother now than she ever has, probably all the new parts I put on it. Woot Woot!!!!!!!!

An another note...I got my, new to me, 37's mounted up on a set of steelies. Going in a couple weeks to get my new D44 in the front. I've got a set of JKS ACOS for the front and a set of Alcan leafs for the rear to help me clear the new meats. I'm so stoked I can't wait til she's done. I'll have pics of the "in progress" install. Stay tuned...

Put in a new water pump.

John

Interesting. My coil is plugged in and sittin in the engine bay. The bracket is no where NEAR any metal. I wonder why mine is cooperating...

Yours isn't a renix... I m pretty sure the HO stuff grounds through the wiring. The renix has this stupid little bracket thing that the coil clips into and it gets power and ground through that. If it gets corroded it doesn't work.

Glad it worked out for you Mark! Weak spark instead of no spark at all was making me lean towards a grounding issue.

It does get frustrating after a while!

Got the front of the "frame", where the old lower control arm mount was, reinforced with the extra frame stiffener.

Also got the back done behind the rear crossmember

When I looked at my front crossmember, it was bad. It was 11 gage 2x6 tubing and had seen a lot of stress and was deformed a little
p804014833-3.jpg

So I went to the local metal yard and got some beefy .25 wall to make a new crossmember.

I wanted to make a new one anyhow since I was not happy with the radius arms and trans all supported by the four factory crossmember bolts. Also, one of the four was stripped. I wanted to make a stronger, yet removable crossmember.

So I made the new crossmember wide enough to reach to the outside of the frame rails and drilled all the holes
p984684293-3.jpg

then I made some end caps for the crossmember out of .25 plate
p1023209364-3.jpg

Fit them and the crossmember up to the frame, and drilled some holes horizontally thru the frame
p925863363-3.jpg

Then I cut some heavy wall tubing for frame sleeves and test fit them in the frame

Of course now I have more weld prep to do to weld the sleeves on the inside of the frame rails;

Hopefully I can get some time to work on it tomorrow or the Thursday. I need to weld in the frame sleeves, then tack the end caps to the crossmember and remove it for final welding. While it is out, I have got to drill and tap the factory frame rail nuts to 7/16 since one is stripped out. Still have to fit and weld the radius arm brackets I got from Ruffstuff to the crossmember.

Lot of work still to do. Want to get it done before the meet and greet in Murfreesboro.
