Weekend is over...what did you get done?

spent today getting the ol' Sportster back in shape for some lucky schmuck to buy. I'd almost forgotten how much fun rebuilding Keihin constant velocity carburetors was-- piece of cake when they're fresh and clean-- not-so-much when fuel varnish is glueing everything together.....

She's up and runnin' like a top, now-- know anyone looking for a Sporty???

Put the 3 link on last night. As well as some other things. Looking to sell my 96 and find an 99-01 to dd and eventually transplant parts under.

Been saving for a yj build:D

Exactly what I did today..minus the injectors.

Replaced my APN manifold that I put on back at the beginning of the year with another APN....and i've STILL got a damn leak!!! The drivers side motor mount was in two pieces, so I know that's what took out my first APN. I replaced them both with Brown Dog Polyurethane mounts and i've got mixed feelings on them. I knew going in that poly's were going to be stiff and expected to notice a bit more vibrations from the engine but...holy hell! I feel every vibration and hear EVERY noise the engine makes now. And i've got a nice whistle now at about 3500 RPM....not sure if that's from the exhaust leak or not.

Got about 35 miles on it now...going to check the bolts again tomorrow morning and see if maybe they need to be re-snugged after warming up and cooling off once. If this doesn't fix the leak..I may just wind up going down to Advance and getting a stupid Dorman and being done with it. As much as I like the design of the APN better, the Dorman's also carry a lifetime warranty and I wouldn't have to bother with shipping and covering shipping costs.

Cracked APN:

I've got a leak with my new APN too. Wasn't a great start with it. The tube for #2 was cracked due to the pipe being bent with the seam on the outside of the bend, fixed via RSOR welding it up. The mounting surfaces weren't on the same plane either. I retightened the bolts today before putting a new coil in it which happened to make the jeep drivable again, so now I need to let it cool again and check all the bolts again.

My left motor mount, which I suspect was stock with 216,000 miles on it was in at least 4 of not 5 pieces with several large chucks of rubber missing.

I wonder if there's a bad batch of APN's out there or something? I didn't notice any cracks before I put the new one on, but I didn't pay too much attention to it (didn't think I had to really). Come to think of it, the leak does sound like it's coming from around #2 or #3. I checked the bolts again today after driving it some more this morning, and they're all very tight.

Sent the cracked APN back to them this morning...I REALLY don't want to put another freakin manifold on this thing...because if I do, it's going to be something else.

I may try to grab a video of it in the morning. Driving it around this morning, it actually seemed like the leak was on and off..which I thought was really weird..and it seemed to be louder once it warmed up versus cold.

1200 or 883?

I'll give ya 5 bucks for the 883 and 1k for the 1200.

Traction bars are for wussies. Right Glen?
Yep! Just add more thinker leafs! :rof:

Spent Sunday in the funeral home and today at funerals. Brother in law's mom passed and his son in laws dad did too. All within a few hours. Tomorrow we release balloons to honor our daughters Birthday. She would have been 26.

eh ill still have an xj. just gonna put all the good parts from the rockcrawler xj under a late model xj and use it as my daily driver and just have a nice capable dd.

im just tired of wheeling a unibody rig... i cant keep the damn thing straight and im tired of having to beef the hell out of it. so ive decided on building a frame based rock rig.

ive got a line on some 39" sticky Krawlers and a rear 9" and front 60. looking for a tub and frame right now.

Hardley Davidson?
meh-- +100lbs lighter, shorter wheelbase, tighter frame, and stiffer engine/transmission assembly than the "big" ones adds up to a more maneuverable and quicker commuter scooter.

- began life as a '92 Deluxe model (5-speed, 883cc, and belt drive)
- currently 1200cc (with 883 heads for low RPM port velocity)

P.S. ignore the stuffed dog-- long running joke where I send pics of my brothers doggie (dognapped in 1990) to him from all over the place when I travel.

Well it's not the weekend, but finished putting the Jeep back together after finally getting it running again yesterday.
Pulled the bent steering kit off and replaced it with the Rock Krawler X Factor Plus steering kit.
Nice kit, easy install, and seriously beefy.

Nice bike, I still want something with a bigger frame. I really want about a 2000 model Softail Custom.

Spoke with APN today about the manifold woes, and they've agreed to give me a full refund if I send the manifold back. Gonna pick up a Dorman tomorrow from o'rilley's and throw it on. Interesting to see the Dorman's have two flex joints in them now. Stopped and looked at one today as I was passing by o'rilley and they're surprisingly beef for what I was expecting. Even if this one cracks, atleast I can easily get it warrantied in town and not have to worry about 2 days shipping in and 2 more days shipping out, plus about a week's time getting reimbursed.

APN gets props on their customer service for sure though. Went above and beyond to try and get things straightened out. shaggybob, I mentioned your out of the box troubles in my e-mails with them. They contacted the manufacturer to see if there have been any other complaints, and of course there haven't been (doesn't mean that there still may not be an issue with a few of them though). He mentioned that if you'd like them to take care of it for you to contact them and they'll make it happen. PM me if you want the contact information.
