Weekend is over...what did you get done?

as soon as i can save up a couple bills i'm going to be getting the samsung captivate.

excited, impatient and frustrated that something always comes up i need to spend money on. >:(

I've got the tmobile g1/htc dream... I like it, a few stupid things it does but all phones have that

Doug, depends on options installed, iirc there are 6 wires on an auto XJ with cruise but only 2 or 4 on a standard without cruise.

Best thing to do would be check the FSM for a brake light wiring diagram then use a volt/ohm meter on the proper wires from the switch. What year is yours? All I know is it's a woody.

its an 87 and it did have cruise at some point theres wires coming down out of the switch and another 2 out the back

crap... I'm a RENIX tard :dunce:

I unfortunately don't have an FSM with me for that year, I only brought the one for the 98 since I was limited on luggage space.

Ya know, one of the things that keeps me coming back to this site....you guys make my laugh:D and there really isn't enough humor these days...:viking:
Carry on...

my xj caught on fire yesterday. electrical stuff under the dash :( i guess i'll have to put off my lift for another week or so. if anybody wants to donate a big pile of colored wire or some butt connectors to my cause, it would be greatly appreciated! i like this little jeep, as i have all my jeeps, and i'm not ready to let another one go! i've been through 4 or more xj's in the last year, so i'm gonna save this one, even if it means re-wiring everything! if someone has a pre-renix wiring harness complete with fusebox, i'd be interested, or if someone has a complete 4cyl FI harness with ecm, fusebox, fuel rails, throttle body and intake manifold- renix or otherwise, i'll take it! i'm ok with whatever it takes to get my little xj going again.

Last night was the first time i left the hospital knowing my dad was going to be ok. one of the doctors had said that my dad might be a vegetable for the rest of his life, but when i went to see him yesterday he was wide awake, and could understand everything i said to him, and would respond to me with smiles, nodding and shaking his head, making funny faces and even mouthing words! he still can't really talk, though, because of the trach-tube in his throat. he is still hanging in there, and finally showing signs of life and intelligence. i'm stoked! i'm going back up to the hospital as soon as i can! he'll more than likely be pretty groggy when i can go see him again, though, because the surgery that they have been putting off for over a week is finally happening today, and then he's done with surgery! it looks like he'll be able to go home in a few weeks! and on top of that he'll know what's going on when he gets there!!! thanks for thoughts and prayers guys. knowing that me dad's going to be ok overshadows all of the crappy stuff that's happened lately with not being able to find work, and my jeeps falling apart on me, and wrecking my bike.

Very cool man, glad to hear this!

(the part about your dad, not the jeep. Its funny how trivial jeep problems are when your loved ones are in need...)

I've been toying with the idea of wiring our deck with lights and an outlet or two.

Seems pretty straightforward. Two lights on the inside, two outlets on the inside and 3 floodlights on the outside. I'll have a switch for the inside lights and the floodlights.

I'd run all the wiring inside the deck inside of conduit with GFCI outlets and so-such. I plan on creating a whole new circuit for this and running it with 12gauge wiring. I believe this should be plenty to handle the load. Most I would do is occasionally run a circular saw or something on it.

Sounds fine to me. Do yourself a favor and buy a single 20 amp GFCI circuit breaker and run the whole thing off it, it's cheaper than multiple GFCI outlets, probably better, and protects everything instead of just the stuff downstream of the GFCI outlet(s).

Interesting - I didn't know they made GFCI breakers.

I'll use those outlet boxes with the weatherproof covers and I'll frame the ceiling for some lights. Not sure about the light switch, though - do they make weatherproof stuff for that?

Maybe I'll run a 3 switch box so if I want something else in the future, it'll be ready to go.

This is my idea:

They make GFCIs and also AFCIs - arc fault circuit interruptor breakers. AFCIs are required in all bedrooms per IRC (international residential code) as of a few years ago.

Which way does the door swing?
How do you enter the house from the deck and how does that door swing?
How big is that deck; I don't think you would need two lights in there?

You may want to consider making a 3way switch were you can control the lights from inside the house and from the deck. I'm assuming that you come from the driveway up a set of stairs near the door and want to be able to turn on the lights there correct?

Also instead of getting a gfci circuit breaker you can run power to one gfci outlet then feed you power from that gfci outlet to your other outlets and lights. Just throwing that out there. I'm not sure how much the gfci circuit breakers cost but the outlet is around 20 bux i think.

Here's an updated picture. The door to the deck is a screen door, as the deck is screened in. There is a screen door on the house along with the real door, hence the two arrows.

My house doesn't have eaves so I assume that when I run the wiring from the attic to the deck, I'll have to drill through the side of the house then seal it up?
