Weekend is over...what did you get done?

DSCN3333.jpg

put a hatch on it all by my lonesome today it looks like a jeep again im pleased to say... still have to do plugs and wires, cut the lower quarters and change the motor mounts but i have tomorrow night off so it should be pretty productive.... its running a little rough but it has mismatched plug wires, the spare plugs of nicks that i installed at the crawl, and gas from early august in the tank.... so hopefully changing a lot of that will remedy it

If billyjp2 ever ends up down there you guys should trade off, he's got a metalllic green xj with a white hatch on it right now :roflmao:

I'm surprised there isn't an easy way to make the OBD-I/II TPS work with the RENIX ECU.

Had my surgery on Thursday and recovery has been a little rough. Trying to get back up on my feet to get some work done on the Jeep.

Soon as I'm walking will start the 4wd conversion and lift.

Spent all day Saturday in the shop. Mark came over at 8:30am and said his A/C compressor had just started squalling. So started by taking the clutch apart just to find the bearing was missing 1/3 of the bearings in it. So we go to the parts pile and look at several compressors and find a bearing that will fit. Not all A/C compressors share the same bearing or pulleys. I ruined the first bearing trying to re-stake it in place so we used a second I found. I didn't screw that one up. We put it back together and were golden.

We also dropped the transmission pan and replaced the filter, pan gasket, and fluid int he trans. The biggest pain was dropping the TNT long arms/crossmember as you have to get it out of the way to get the pan off. I cleaned the pan and made it look new again. The pan gasket was leaking and it turns out the gasket was dried up and brittle. We got all that buttoned up and all seems good. We also put a B&M tranny cooler on his XJ. You can tell the difference in temp on the input vs. output.

Then we decided to install a set of Rough Country drop brackets on my pile. The job had a few headaches but wasn't too bad. Pushed the axle forward quite a bit so I'm happy with that. I also tightened up my stock trackbar mount. It was loose. I still need to get a 11/32" drill bit to drill the holes for mounting the reinforcement brackets on the drop brackets. Other than that, it's almost done.

Finished at 11pm.

Started PB Blasting things in preparation of the axles to be installed in 2 weeks. My goal this weekend was to slide the 8.8 in place so that all we need to do on that Saturday is make the necessary small adjustments.

Started that process by pulling the rear drive shaft to swap out u-joints. They are rusted in place hard and fast. Then decided to disconned the brake line to the rear axle but that attachment nut was rusted in place also.

So, I'll be taking a "sick day" on Wednesday to go to the PAP and get a new front and rear drive shaft and a new hard brake line that runs from the rear axle to the master cylinder.

Methinks that for $45 in used parts it will be easier than fighting rust on the original parts. Besides, if I get the drive shafts from the PAP, I can use the original ones as a trail spare.

Speaking of A/C's, was Mark able to use the old coil off the new compressor I sent up with you? Never heard anything about it.

the connector is different and im sure the voltages and positions are totally different
I know the connector is different, but that's just splicing... theoretically (at least on an M/T rig) the two are the same, just variable resistors, except they may have different calibration curves and/or total resistances.

We used the bearing from the pulley. The compressor is still complete minus the bearing.

I think Mark's other Jeep that had clutch issues just started working again after messing with it.

His bearing failed on the way to my house to change his trans fluid. I then ruined the one good bearing we had, so we used the one from your compressor. Let me know what you want for the bearing. We needed one for him to be able to drive home and no one in town had the bearing (Koyo and NGK both make them).

I got my upper quarter guards on. Not a bad deal at all. Also helped my cousin lift his WJ 2.5" and found me a pop-up camper i'm gonna go take a peak at it this weekend.

Sorry sir. It's been sitting in Ed's Jeep since he got it from you. As for the coil, I didn't use it, the one I thought I was gonna have to replace started working again and has worked ever since. Go figure. However, as you saw what Ed posted, the bearing, I did use. Let me know what you want for it and it will be done. I didn't have another one to replace it but if I come across another compressor with the same bearing, I will.

If we hadn't had your compressor, I probably wouldn't have made it home... Thank you sir!

Not worried at all about the bearing, glad you guys were able to use it. I am happy just making sure we knew where the new compressor was ($$ :D ). Mark, still wanting to do your fenders or?

We need to set-up another weekend if so.

Yes, I still want to do them. I think this month is out though. What weekends do you have open in Nov?

Thanks,
Mark

I got Betty about 99% done, so I took her Wheeling on Saturday to Coppenger Cove. Here are some pictures:

In the shop on Friday night, just after "finishing up" for the trip:

Then on Saturday morning, first time out with 4wd, so some pre-ride testing was in order:

And yes it was pitch black in there... the only reason you can see is because of the camera flash.

Freaking awsome Tyler!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome job. Betty is a bombshell!

I can't believe you got Tim to ride shotgun. It must have been killing him to not have the wheelspin going on.

Looks good Tyler. Where is the Cave?
