Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Mom and I went in together and bought a 96 Cobra Convertible yesterday. Guy gotta go get it tomorrow morning. It has a few things done to it, but it is in really good shape and drives great too. Needs a few small things here and there but it will be good as new after I can work on it for a few days.

Do I smell another LSx swap? :D

F*** no! Im not the guy who is crazy about Fords or Chevys or Dodges... I like all three. But Im a firm believer in leaving a Ford a Ford. The engine in that car is a DOHC 4.6. The block and crank are good to over 1000 HP! The rods and pistons... not so much. But, it also has the B heads on it which flow extremely well in the 8000+ RPM range (which is where you gotta be for that kind of power). With a port job and some valve work they rock. Then you just need Cams, a big blower or turbo, and some N2O, and you're set. Not that I ever want to do that as it would be dumb in a Convertible, but its cool to say I could haha!

In all seriousness, the plans for it are a T-56 (6 speed found in New Cobras, Z06 Vette, and Vipers) swap when the clutch goes (88,000 miles and Im not sure if it's ever had one), aluminum Flywheel and driveshaft at the same time, then probably a Kenne Bell blower system. The first mod will be rebuilding the stock Limited slip and installing a 4.10 gear for the high revving 4.6. They like it... Don't fear the gear! Haha, they say that about the 4.6 motors. Current mods are the Chrome Cobra R's, wider tires, Caster/Camber plates, lowered an inch with higher rate coils and sway bars, Short throw shifter, "roll bar", Mac Prochamber mid-pipe, and Magnaflow Cat-back with no cats. It sounds really mean.

The only issues that I know of are that the A/C quit working sometime this winter while it was in storage. The guy said it was working great last year. Also, if you really slam the gears hard, 2nd will grind a little. This means that either the 2nd gear synchros are worn some, or the clutch quadrant is flexing and/or out of adjustment. Im going to talk to a few more mustang friends and see what they suggest I do... Im new to the whole fox mustang and modular motor thing. Steeda makes a nice kit that comes with an adjustable clutch cable, firewall cable adjuster (so 2 places you can adjust), and an aluminum quadrant to replace the factory plastic one. They are know to flex and cause shifting issues.

Hopefully its not the synchros... it doesn't really feel like it at all, just feels like the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. I don't see why the T-45 trans would be having issues with only 88,000 miles and a bone stock engine. Most people have good luck with them even with twice the mileage and power adders... However, if the trans does need some work, its coming out and a T-56 is going back in!

I plan on a gear REALLY soon, like next week sometime. I have all he stuff to do it except for the 4.10 which I'm working on. The 4.6 has no bottom end torque, and since I have no desire to go 160+ MPH, that is the best mod you can do to one of these things.

I'll post up more pics once I get it home and cleaned up tomorrow. He hasn't washed it in a year b/c he hardly ever drives it anymore. The man is in his 60s and his wife has cancer pretty bad so he's been having to take care of her. He's selling the car to help pay the bills... kinda sad story actually.

I hate doors... I hated them when I worked in a body shop and still hate them today... Spent today trying to wrestle my drivers door back on to the hinges on my own its up there but no where close to bring able to shut the dang thing, i need some more hands, arms and know-how to get it lined up and done. So any of the Atlanta/N Ga. folks if you want to lend a hand please don't be shy. I will be home next Sat but traveling for work Sun - Thurs. I'll buy dinner and your choice of beverage... and yes its a 2 door.

:helpme:

I'll see what I can do Latney... I want to come down in the new car anyway... but I may need to be working myself. I bet you could con James into helping you! Haha

If I haelp don't worry about food and beverages, but the car would like to have a new T-56...

Wonder if one out of a new Plum Crazy Purple Challenger would fit??? :dunno: :D

I ordered Yukon 4.88 gears and spools for the 9" and D44. Should be here Wednesday along with the SYE/ driveshaft kit and the longer Rubicon front springs. Finished fabbing the front frame/ bumper reinforcements for mine and a friends XJ. Takes a lot of time to cut out and drill 8 brackets!! Still have to find a local source for 1/2 inch ID heavy wall tubing for the steering brackets. Guess I will look for that tomorrow.

A guy at work has an 01 bullitt pushing 650 to the wheels and its his DD. I actually give it the thumbs up and I hate Mustangs.

Ripped the drivetrain out of the 96, put a new aw4 in the middle, and stuffed it back in. Took 6 hours or so working alone with no power tools and a harbor freight hoist, in a parking lot during a thunderstorm, and it got dark about when I was bolting up the new transmission. I think I did pretty ok.

Tomorrow after work I pull the manifolds off, weld up some cracks, install a flex joint, and toss it all back together then hope it starts.

Not a darn thing but I'm on vacation starting at 5 am for a week, going to pull the trans and transfer case, surface the flywheel and start on the fuel tank skid plate, install the new brake and clutch master cylinder and run out of time to put the rest back in.

I got some more of the floor welded back in the Jeep. Gotta cut a few more small pieces to fill in some holes where my first piece didn't cover and seal it all up.

Other than that, we went to the lake and drank a few...too many. :)

There is a hiccup emote...

Finish your 4x4 or start and finish the Mustang before you try finishing the 4x4. Doing two projects like that will drain your funds and leave you with two unfinished projects and unhappy. Unless you have a big bank roll.

yep... more than one project at a time SUCKS.

rather, more than one project that requires non junkyard components SUCKS. More than one junkyard-scrounging project at a time = lots of fun!

GREAT DAY TO BE ME!!!

The new garage/beer fridge showed up 15 minutes ago. I found a small (1/4") dent in the back corner. The guy that delivered asked me if I was satisfied with the fridge. I showed him the dent (even though it didn't matter...it is just a garage fridge) and he took 10% off the order.

Then, I get confirmation from UPS that my AJ's Rock Rails are in Franklin and on a truck to my house today. :yelclap:

Then, I get confirmation from UPS that my new ball joints are en route and will be here Thursday. :woohoo:

Yippee!!! party1:
