Weekend is over...what did you get done?

holy mother of god, how the hell did you respond that fast?

I paid 2500 bucks... that's only 100 bucks more than the 96 cost me, and I paid WAY too much for that. Apparently this truck is actually worth around 5-8k in its present condition and if I restore it decently, way more. I didn't know that when I bought it! If I can, I'll flip it and find another one to do the same thing to. The sticker on the window says the previous previous owner paid $13561 at auction for it.

No camera phone... my new phone is a camera phone but I haven't moved all my contacts onto it yet. Working on that tonight probably.

I can type like 90 wpm, so it makes it easy to respond quickly to people.

Sounds like you got a pretty damn good deal on it; I have severe jealousy.

Ah, well, you are going to need to make sure you keep us (me) updated with some pictures.

Likewise on the fast typing... I just don't refresh the forums that quick (usually.)

AMC-MJ and I have been discussing the truck's past/features and such on CC a bit, he knows way more about this stuff than I do. I'll probably post pics there eventually.

hahahahahahahaha AC... nope. Was originally built in the 60s or 70s, military vehicles didn't get that kind of cushy stuff then.

Well, I guess it has 2-50 AC - 2 windows, 50mph. If I REALLY push it nearly to redline, make that 2-55. It has no roof on it right now, so AC isn't really needed anyways. If I felt like it, I could flip the windshield panels up, or fold the whole windshield frame down on the hood, but I don't like eating bugs and road dust quite that much.

There are a couple companies that keep stuff in stock (Boyce Equipment in Utah, White Owl in NC, plus others) but I'm really just hoping I won't need much. Once in a while they get parted out on CL or steelsoldiers.net, some of the guys over there are nuts, I've seen people with a dozen different heavy rigs in their signature collection. Really wish I had that kind of space and cash.

holy craaaaaaap they want over 400 dollars for a canvas top!

I'll drive in the rain for that kind of price!

Might pick up their filter kit though, I'm fairly certain I need to change the filters.

There was a few guys driving one of those on the beach a couple of weeks ago selling bait.....freakin awesome!

That's a heck of an adventure and story! Looks like a wild truck. I'm guessing you're not too old, huh??:dunno:
Road Trips make great memories!:yelclap:
Nope. Just turned 24.

I felt like I was 50 the next morning though. Most of Pennsylvania is cement highways with expansion joints spaced perfectly... so that the entire rear end of the M54 was bouncing. Those massive axles were taking turns bouncing a couple inches off the ground (front up and back down, back up and front down... repeat until driver is pounded into jelly) so every time, I'd fly off the seat, rebound off the seat belt, and slam back into the seat. I think a couple tons of cargo would help, most likely. I learned quickly that if I saw expansion joints coming up, or a section of cement highway, I should grab the steering wheel as hard as I could, slam my foot on the accelerator (it was already on the floor, but it made a good spot to brace), tense up, and prepare to be used as a pinball. The guy driving my MJ back (with my tools and some spare parts in it) said it looked like I was on a 20 thousand pound pogo stick.

White Owl is a really good shop. I have stopped by there a few times looking at trailers.

Almost, the one at the beach was a 2.5 ton.

If this is the truck that you bought, then I'm incredibly jealous of you.

Theres a guy here in town that has 3 of them for sale. I believe he wants about 6k for one of them. Not sure about the others. I want to think he said 3k for one of them and I haven't talked to him since he got the 3rd one. He's also got some bare rockwells just laying there.

This was an awesome build! They took one of those trucks, bobbed it and put air ride on the back so they could stick a built samurai in the back of it.

hahaha, I have seen that link more than techno jeep since I got this thing :roflmao:

It is in fact an awesome build though.

Is he selling 5tons or deuces? I was really looking for a deuce, the best one I'd found was one a steelsoldiers member was going to sell me "sometime, after he put the new engine in it" (i.e. gonna be a while since it was a fun side project) for 2900. I ended up with a 5 ton for about the same amount after paying for enough gas to drive down/back and enough diesel to drive it back.

Unless you have really, really wide tall trails around there, don't consider trying to wheel one. It was fun but I ate every tree I went under and I ended up reversing out of a trail because my mirrors were both touching trees.

Also, hope you like standards, because the -A3 with the automatic is... expensive. 7 to 9 grand expensive.

Yup, I put 150k on a Samurai through college and on into the real world...lots of Road Trip adventures, including Moab. But, of course, that was on a whole different scale! Enjoy it!
