Weekend is over...what did you get done?

flew back from costa rica, found grandpa with a flat tire that was completely off the rim, so i pulled it off, did the ether trick to get it back on, then drove from memphis to jackson and bought four brand new bfg a/t's. i hate worrying about whether my chitty tires will get me home, so i blew the coin on something that i considered a good investment. my first big jeep descision as a married man. before i would have gotten mud-terrains, but now the wife might hafta drive it to memphis sometimes, and she don't like the noise... i think it'll be ok...

Had a talk with Tyler last night about the built.
Going with:
stock rods
258 crank
.030" over pistons
'95 head with a nice work over from his machine shop (gasket match, springs, 3 angle valve job, etc)
HV oil pump
Doug Thorley header

It's my xmas present to myself this year.

Oh...and the D90 gets delivered today. I WILL have it next time I hit the trails

really? like land rover d90? i'm a jealous mofo over here! i love those things! i saw them and fj40's and sprungover samarai's everywhere i went on my honeymoon. it was sweet! there were even some defender 110's, and 120's, and some REALLY huge ones that were the same size just with a real long wheelbase and sometimes a truckbed or a flatbed on the back.
 
D90 = nice freaking camera. I'm still stuck on my Canon XT. I plan on selling it and getting a more compact camera.

What good is a dSLR if you can't afford to buy new lenses.
 
I think it depends on your lenses that you already have. I replaced and upgraded everything. I got the D90 because it has the autofocus motor on the body. The less pricey Nikons don't have that and I wanted to be able to use all Nikon lenses...not to be limited.
I had good experience for a few years with one of those 'hybrid' SLR-style Olympus cameras. It had a SLR type body but you couldn't take off the lense. The photos it took were really really good.

I like this one a little more than the D40 I replaced. It has a bigger body, and it seems a little more well made. I have big hands and this one fits like a glove...no pun intended. I'll take it for a test drive soon when the batteries are charged and I'm off work.
 
Yeah, mine just had the regular kit lens - but I never did upgrade the lens when I had the chance. Now there's no way that'll happen. It's a pretty awesome camera, though.

I was looking into getting a waterproof camera.
 
Oh I stay away from water with mine...but that's just me. I don't get around it enough to really worry. I shoot around waterfalls and rivers but I'm as careful as I can be. I stopped diving when I left Guam.

You can probably look on ebay for lenses if you have a good body you like. Or the new Canon Digital Rebels are supposed to be good. I just prefer Nikon.
 
Yeah, I play a lot of outdoor sports, so it'd be nice to take pics/720p vid in the rain or in a creek or whatever. I like versatility. Never been diving, but it looks hella fun.

Unfortunately, the only way I'm getting my new camera is by selling the old. No $ available for upgrades. That's the downside to getting married.
 
Yeah I had been eyeing one for a while now and with the addition of us geocaching she and I both finally saw enough reason for me to have one. (Scouts, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, 4 wheelin, etc)
 
gps is neat, but it's another one of those things that encourage people to stop solving their own problems. it could save your life in many situations, but if it ever breaks or gets misplaced after years of relying on it, i could see where a lot of people wouldn't know their way home from places they go everyday. my sister doesn't know how to get home from the place she has worked for 3 years now, so she still listens to the space b*tch as i have lovingly named hers to tell her every direction. i do like the ones that will tell you exactly where you are, and give you an idea of what you need to do to get where you want to be. that is very cool. step by step directions at the tip of your finger just seems like something for a 9 year old who hasn't learned to wipe yet. don't take me seriuosly, by the way. i'm just trying to be funny.
 
Good point. I travel for a living and I used mapquest print outs for about 3 months.
I'll say that driving at night reading a pieceof paper wasn't the greatest ideas. Though now my gps doesn't give the right directions...and sometimes has a hard time finding a satellite. FUnny how that happened right when the "map update" became due and I was supposed to pay Garmin for it.
I try not to use it around Knoxville, and I'm still learning the way around.
 
Yeah I use my blackberry for the turn by turn directions when I'm headed to a new place or I'm out of town. This eTrex is going to be for outdoors stuff not auto. I was talking to a guy at work today and he said the only thing he is using his GPS for is a speedometer.
