replaced the front driveshaft, due to the double cardan joint about to fail..

earlier this week, I did brakes on all four corners, and replaced both front hub bearings.. In the SNOW... nice..

Nope, no need for it. Drums work just fine on a MJ. They are way too light in the rear to need discs.

That centering ball is one expensive little bugger. Just bought one for my roommates TJ yesterday as his DC took a crap back when the transfer case went kaboom.

exactly what failed on mine!

Today, I wired up the 1st gear lockout, and torque-converter lockup switch(es)..

Tomorrow, I order repl. parts for the cardan joint, and rebuild it.

Realized that for the first in a long time I own no vehicle, running or not, with a transfer case.
Died a little inside.

........headed out the door in a few minutes to look at a '90 XJ.

Yeah, those damn little balls are real good at taking out a Tcase

That's not what took out the transfer case...atleast I dont think that's what it was.

The transfer case got run dry back in the summer for a long time on the highway. He added fluid back to it and kept going...then back at the beginning of December he called and said that it was running rough on the highway, and by the time he got off he couldn't get it into a gear. He finally got it into a gear but it wouldn't roll, and come to find out there was a fist sized hole in the front of the case.

After a new case was put on he had mad vibes/knocking from the front driveshaft.

Yeah, that sounds like the tcase took out the ds.

Last year I wheeled my '96 all weekend and then on the way to work on Monday morning I hearded a couple of bams and by the time I got to the side of the road my tcase gasket was pushed out at the bottom and it was bleeding fluid. The ball had come apart and the ds had jammed against the bottom of the floorpan. That's the second time I've had that happen, although the first time the damage to the tcase wasn't quite as bad.
It busted something in the front of the tcase, as it would go into 4hi, but not 4lo, and it took quite a bit of effort to get it to shift out of 4hi. I was going to pull it apart, but I came across a good deal on another NP231 so the damaged one is actually still sitting in a barn. I'm assuming it killed a bearing and whatever else on the front output. I had zero issues with the tcase before the front ds grenaded, both times.

Replaced my OEM UpCountry/RC AAL with a 4.5" RC Leaf spring pack.

Thanks again GRIMUS99XJ @ Rough Country!
