Weekend is over...what did you get done?

Wow..haven't seen Inventor in a while. We're spoiled at work with Solidworks. Now, if only we had enough licenses for the entire engineering department (7) to be on at the same time....

Yeah, not only is it inventor... it's inventor from way back in yesteryear!

I'm going to check out a potential new tow rig today. I'm excited.

Absolutely... could easily be a weekend project.

Sweet. Just need to get some funds together and find a weekend where I can bring the Jeep out there. Really need to get this oil leak under control though before I do anything (rear main I suspect...again).

Went to wooly's with Mbogosia and my buddy in a WJ. We had a blast, wheeled all day, and went home. Matt has a 1990 Range Rover classic county now. i've always like the looks of these, but was skeptical of their offroad prowess. I was surprised to see him go pretty much everywhere i did in my xj, in the rain. The rover is totally stock other than a 2.5" lift and some bigger tires, while the xj is locked front and rear.
I broke my passenger side axle u-joint, but had an entire spare shaft in the jeep, so i just put it back together and continued to have fun.
around noon it quit raining, and the trip kept getting better.
videos are on Mbogosia's youtube channel:

on the plus side, I know people who run 35s on em with stock shafts no problem, and a guy in my club has 39.5 stickies of some kind on his, a 302/np435 in front of it, and no problems at all AFAIK! He does have good quality alloy shafts and a full case locker in it though.

The 8.8 is a beast.

The 8.8 rocks. It's definitely a boat anchor compared to stock Jeep axles, but it's completely worth it. Only thing i've done to mine was put a Ruff Stuff cover on it (3/8" thick steel). Peeled the lip back on the stock cover while in Kentucky this year and lost about half the gear oil on the 5 hour drive home. Didn't realize it was leaking until I was halfway home and noticed the hatch starting to get covered up.

As for my weekend, met up with Nick and Josh on Friday night as Nick was in town for work. Got about 4 hours of sleep that night and was at a local car show by 8am Saturday. Spent all day Saturday with some old friends I hadn't seen in a while and grilled out in between the storms last night. Today was a recovery/get things done around the house day. Couldn't ask for better weather today!

Got rear axle in just had to stretch so I could use stock front drive shaft
don't look bad just a lil bald

Worked, hung out with Tim and Josh, worked, worked, hit up Bass Pro Shops on the way home as is traditional, now I'm crossing fingers as I just sent an offer on another possible Jeep project.

I officially own my on tow rig now. I doubt it's going to drag the Jeep thru 1000's of miles of mountain roads but it should do great around here.

Now, it just needs some lovin.

Well spent the weekend tracking down my death wobble and I think the last URE trip I did with Tim finally did my trackbar and motormounts in. Both are completely shot and I have major deathwobble resulting from the bad trackbar. Tim to order some brown dog motormounts and a new adjustable trackbar. Looks like the heep will be sitting for a while again.....

With the way we were booking it off the trails, i'm not surprised. My alignment was out of wack before hand, now it's way out of wack and my track bar is in need of work too.

Heh yea I also found out my steering box was a little bit loose, probably from hitting those ditches and puddles coming off of the trails. I know I hit quite a few of them hard. Im just glad I didnt pull the steering box through when I checked it on Saturday. I think Im gonna consider getting a steering box brace also when funds permit. But first order is to get the trackbar taken care of so I can atleast drive the heep.

On a side note though, I took the yota out for a lil shakedown run on a buddy of mines property. I think I might have to build up the yota as a trail rig now and revert the jeep to stock LOL. Putting it in 4lo and 1st gear it crawls up just about anything on street tires.

i went and looked at towrigs too..... putting transmissions in mine is getting old

It seemed to have a butt load of electrical issues when I got it. I finally got time to take a look at it. It was missing 6 fuses. Replaced them all and everything works great. 149k... for 3 grand.

I've been running 35's on my 8.8 for 4 years now. I've never broke a single thing on it. It does have a full carrier locker in it tho.

Think a 14 foot trailer is too short to haul the Jeep? I'm pretty sure I need at least 16... What say you?

yes its too short.... 16 is the minimum i would haul any car on. just enough to adjust for proper balance. I also recommend a weight distributing hitch. Redheep uses one even with his 250 and says its a major improvement. i think he got his from amazon.

end to end with a big bumper in the front an xj comes in at just under 15ft

Depends on the trailer... remember my old one with the dexter type axles? It was right at 14' and hauled mine fine. Even with the tons. Did it fit great? Not really.

I agree here after using a 14' trailer for 5 years to haul my jeep.
