Now I have a 96 Cherokee and I'm running 235/75R15 Michelin LTX's.

Those tires will not dissapoint you. That's what was on my Jeep (in those pictures even!) for a long time.

Now as for the whole poser/whatever thing. What bugs me isn't that, it's the arrogance of immediatly dismissing somebody because of the way their built (or not built), have you wheeled a stock XJ? You know that wheeling stock with little tires is the beset way to learn how to pick lines, right?

yes you are right, all i'am saying is it's the people that do it for the LOOK!, i see and talk to alot of them around here, i have wheeled with a stock rig, but i did not take my spare out of the back and put it on my roof so i looked cool.

How is putting a spare tire on the roof for looks is any different than driving a new WJ or WK from the dealer with a brush guard. My brother has a 2000 Tahoe Z-71 that comes from the factory with a brush gurad and I don't think that is poser at all.

I carry my spare on the roof becuase I carry 2-75 pound German Sherpherds in the XJ with me. It is easier for me to just leave the tire up then keep moving it everytime I want to take the dogs.

Personally, I don't care to see guys that drive XJs with all sorts of chrome bling all over the place with big stereos pumping out some rap, or heavy metal or crap like that. It doesn't stop me from giving them the Jeep Wave. It just isn't my thing.

I guess what I am getting at, is this...what is poser to one guy isn't to another. At least they are driving Jeeps!

Instead of railing them down, maybe we should be educating them and inviting them out on a trail ride. The more Jeepers we get into the sport, the longer the XJ nation will continue.

By the way...all my off-raod trips have been on mismatched light truck tires. I haven't been out once since I got my 31' MTs. Tires don't make the truck.

Funny told the story before, but it kind of makes the point, some of the others have made. Picture the wife, elementary school teacher in an XJ grocery getter.
Wife had one of the first 4.0 XJ´s in Germany (she traded in her FSJ). Jeep was putting on a closed course, run what you brung. About a half a mile of side slopes, mud holes, mogules and other assorted obsticales, ending in a middle serious 25 yard mud pit by the grandstands.
Whole bunch of modified PU`s, CJ´s and what not showed up.
Got with the organizer before hand and set up the wife, everybody climbed out of the XJ, checked to see if her seat belt was on, and pointed and told her to park over there, she comes to a guy with a starter flag, sits there for a minute, finally catches on and away she goes. Baby seat flying against the roof, diaper bag flying through the air (really should have thought of that), she finally crapped out about the last fifteen feet before the finish, the guys were standing there with there mouths open, all you could hear were the gals cheering. Pretty much bone stock XJ, just worked over the intake before the run and sealed the ignition. 87, came with the HD tow package. HD suspension.
Were a half dozen, built and modified rigs, crapped out all along the course.
Joke was on me, took two weeks to clean it back up again, but Jeep did give me free parts, to repair what broke.

ANY real offroader wont take a small street tire offroad.
I run 36" tsl radials and my spare is a 31" tire from an f-150. I carry tire plugs and the 31 is just in case I absolutely shread a tire. Yeah it's not ideal but I can't justify spending $200+ on a fifth swamper right now, and the likely hood of ruining one beyond repair is verry small. I just have the spare to get me off the trail, after that I can park it and hit up a tire store if I need to.

seeing as how I work ,play, transport my two pride and joys w my Cherokee it wouldnt hurt if my little 235 spare was on the rooof or some where out of the way.you never know what someones circumstances are.furthermore those posers will get the sickness sooner or later .you just cant resist wheeling yuor XJ.Oh and ive been in some pretty ridiculus places when mine was all stock.sure will teach you to pick the right line.lol :us:

when i first started i did calico and oddessa canyon(near barstow) with 31's and i think an inch or two of lift. worked out perfect. like it was said earlier tires and lift dont make the rig it's the driver.

the spare tire thing-i have 33 interco thornbirds, my spare, which is on top, is only a 30". people can talk sh!t all they want. who cares about tires on top. if you need it you need it. if you dont you dont.

I guess I'm troubled by the attitude that everyone with a jeep is required to be an offroader.

I'm confused as to why someone would assume that the tire on the roof is indicative of someone trying to emulate the offroad set.

jumping to conclusions are we?

Naxja has little room for the sanctamonious.

nope, not jumping to conclusions, i've talked to most of the ones i'am talking about, and with most of them, the only offroad they'll see is driving over the wet lawn!

who cares?

I'll bet you are the most hardcore jeeper in the whole highschool.

congrats.

So why don't you help them see the light and invite them on a trail run.

It's a rare day when I'm in Beezils' corner, but (this hurts) HES RIGHT !!

Ever stop to think MAYBE they were carrying stuff in the back and found that putting the spare on the top got them some extra room?

GOD...that would be original. It's just easier to crack back on them since they aren't here.

I smell somthin in here I just cant quite pinpoint it...
