used car salesman RANT

That sounds alot like the old bait and switch. If the dude knew he had another buyer then he broke the law when he told you it's yours. I'd contact a lawyer and pinch the dealership for a nice little settlement.
That is exactly what I thought. I just have no way to prove it other than my word. I would love to sue them but would be happy with somebody losing their job over it, realistically though, I am just happy those scumbags didn't get a dime from me and will leave it at that unless the BBB gets back to me with some possible solutions, I am not going to lie down and take it though, my voice will be heard:)

The owner of the franchise seemed to think it was a huge misunderstanding of some sort, but assured me he would be talking to TJ about this. Something about they thought that the other guy was me or some other lame improbable excuse, the fact is they did not take my deposit which i offered more than once, and told me to come down and the truck was ready to drive home, I'm sure I will never really know what happened, other than me leaving VERY angry.

im not a dodge expert but here are some HP numbers from teh cummins forum i belong to about the cummins engines: The 03-04 are 305/555 if they are the HO motor, those have the 48RE tranny, the SO are 250/505 for those you get the older 47RE tranny. The 04.5+ are 325/605.

i was told that the 04.5-06 are the most reliable.... towing though your still gonna have to deal with the trans... my cousin has gone though 3 stock trans so far on his 04

plus the truck doesnt hold up as well... interior trim leaves much to be desired....

my vote is still for a Ford :)

go to the various forums and talk to people that own each individual truck and see what they say... hopefully you can get an unbiased answer from them....

The 04.5-05 ISB motors will blow a 7.3 into pieces without breaking a sweat. Saying that the 7.3 and the cummins are "eye to eye" is total bull.

I've owned 3 7.3's, and I love them, but there's nothing better then a Ford with a common rail cummins in it.

Well I am going to chime in for what its worth.. IN 99-2000 I was a crew chief on a ford escort rally car, we had a ford box van with the 7.3.. great truck the only thing that sucked was the trans.. 2001 I moved over to a Mitsu team and drove the customers rig that was an 2001 dodge cummins 4x4.. Loved that truck even more than the old box van, so much that I got one of my own.. After 2 years and 150,000 miles later I sold it to a farmer in central cal.. My folks have an 2004 dodge with the cummins and it runs a ton better than my 01 with a bigger turbo.. The only downside to the dodge is the tranny and anything that Banks sells for it.. If you go dodge look into ATS diesel in Colorado they have a trans that works, and other goodies.. Banks crap is all smoke and mirrors crap for the older stuff.. My dodge has been cross country a few times and up to quebec a few times and never left me on the side of the road.. only the trailer has done that.. just my .02$ worth...

I think that is worth WAY more than .02$ there Scott(I owe you a beverage of your choice at the very least:)), I greatly appreciate it and you have only reinforced my previous research and other guys that own the dodge trucks. I have heard the same things about the Banks stuff and will definitely look into the ATS trans stuff if I can get a truck.

ill just have to add that the e-250+ vans are non intercooled... they have higher egt's and will create less Hp than a normal 7.3L truck....

i agree that the cummins is a the best diesel engine period... but... from personal experiance.. through me and friends/ family.. the dodge trucks will not hold up to heavy duty use.... their is a reason why their are more Ford work truck than any other brand truck around... you can beat them to hell and they will still do great....

just my opinion

-Raul

ATS is alright, but you can find better for cheaper. The Common rail dodges (03+) are great motors. Can't beat them, especially if you can find a 6speed.

I also appreciate that, I can deal with chassis issues, trans issues are a bit worrisome but I can probably pay for some piece of mind with upgraded trans, I am not a diesel mechanic(much less a mechanic at all) so for me, the motor is the absolute main thing that I am going for.

Thanks Scott, I should have a truck by then but you just never know, either way I would love to come check out that rally car again, let me know!

It was an E450 with disc in the rear... Still sucked.. I know I put 85K on it...

Stock 7.3's are totally gutless, as are the 12 valve CTD's, and the vp44 24 valve CTD's (98.5-02). The 6.0 Fords, the common rail CTD's, and the Duramax's all have good power right out of the box.

I'll actually be buying my wife a Duramax to replace her Jetta. Don't want another Ford, and the Dodge's have GREAT motors, but the rest of the truck is just awful. The D-max is a good motor, great trans, and drives like a car.

wow... yah those blow.. i had a customer with one that we modded up.... their was absolutely no way to add an intercooler and he was seeing 1600+ egt's.. we eventualy added a water meth kit but it still only brought it down a few hundred degrees cooler.....

I ment motor. :banghead:

Sorry, that was pretty stupid. I have a few friends with common rail Dodge's. They're fast, and with very little mods. But they've all ate thru trans, front unibearings, body fitment over 100k is horrible, interior rattles, etc.

Kinda like driving a giant XJ .

But thanks cracker, I hope this clarifies.

whelp, heading out to Phoenix this Thursday to check this truck out, and yes...I left a deposit, it is refundable and I am getting a rt plane ticket just in case. Anything I should look at critically? It is a long bed and I have not seen any pics but is in excellent shape, and the salesman seemed...honest. We'll see.
thanks again guys:

hehe, the funny thing is the race truck started out as ....goldish, we called it goldmember for the longest time, now it is flat black. I could really care less about the color though, just hope it is all good mechanically.

chris, PM me the VIN# and the miles...I'll give you all the info you need

Justin

EDIT: Nevermind...I'm blind

Check to see if the trans is the original, check for 5th wheel holes in the bed, and check the fuel pressure. Those VP44 trucks are famous for loosing the lift pump, and killing the whole injection system.
