topgear america

I thought the show was bad but had potential. They just need to get rid of Foust. I hate that little weasel.

This.

I also doubt that for lawyerish reasons they will get away with things like driving on public roads. Takes the "organicness" out of it.

Carrola would have been a much better option in my opinion, first of all i think that the show needs a pompous a**hole, and it would make the feeling of the show change from kind of awkward fake laughs and fake chemistry to funny, maybe less awkwardness. The big guy with the glasses just doesnt do it for me. One of the biggest reasons that i love the british version of the show is because i love seeing cars from around the world that we do not get here and im afraid that the american version is not going to focus on that at all. Hopefully it doesnt become one big advertisement for ford, dodge, chevy, etc, which i have a feeling that it might.

I have BBC america in my cable package, I'll stick to clarkson and hammond telling may that he's a douche!

My suspicion is that your suspicion is probably spot-on - at least in the sense that they'll shy away from giving less-than-glowing reviews of cars.

Here's why I say that: the UK edition of Top Gear runs on the BBC. The BBC's funding comes from two sources: the TV Licence and the government; it's otherwise non-commercial in much the same way as, say, PBS is here. Because of this, the UK edition can call a car complete crap and not have to worry about losing advertising revenue - at least as it applies to the terrestrial BBC channels; the satellite BBC channels Top Gear magazine may be a different story.

Call a car crap on a US programme and watch the advertisers run, not walk, away. Granted, Top Gear airs on the History Channel, which tends to be light on advertising - but as History is owned by A&E, expect the advertising to be pulled from other A&E-owned channels that do run car ads.

I'll give it another couple of episodes to find its stride, but I have a bad feeling that what we saw last night matches what's in the pipeline as far as being engaging goes.

Six months behind and they are now showing all 120 min of them.

That's a change then from the last time I watched on BBC america. I canned dish 7 months ago and haven't looked back. HDTV Antenna/HTPC for our TV needs now,

ya you notice the topgear uk track has left and right hand turns were as the us vers is just a funkey left turn

I'll watch it because I'll watch any thing automotive on tv. But I really hate Foust, like was said earlier his comments on the shifter were painful to watch. I really hope it gets better.

I went back and watched the first episode of the current UK Top Gear after watching TG-USA last night, their first wasn't any better than the US one. Here's the first episode of TG-UK.
Just ran across these;

i don't really agree with you I think Clarkson's review of the belingo is great. its what made me fall in love with the show in the first place.
I agree that the chemistry isn't all there, but that's because of Jason(the fat guy) james may really completes the group a lot better then he did.

and wheres the news segment in TG US? and they didn't even interview buzz. they just listed his cars and he made two or three word comments about each one.

and the definition of the stig was horrible. there was no mystery or intrigue. it was just here is a guy who isn't going to talk.

thats funny. it kinda goes to prove what the other countries say about the US and nascar. that Americans can olny go fast in strait lines and sometimes turn left. they really should have thought about that.

Watched part of the episode. I'm reminded of that other show Foust was on that I think got canned. It wasn't very good either, IMO. If they just try to ape the UK version, minus the realistic opinions on American cars... not thinking it will last nearly as long.

I'm not really fond of Faust after watching him on those shows to be honest, Not much personality and he can be a prick. I don't mind the other two (and I thought I'd hate the NA$CAR guy!), and kinda had to laugh at the Lambo induced Turrets Ferrera developed on the speed run in his Lambo............of course, I'd probably do the same if I were driving that monster on a run like that!

I missed the show because my Dish receiver took a dump on me, Im also missing my favorite shows Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters, IRT Deadliest Roads. But anyways, if they chose hosts for this show like Spike does for its powerblock shows, then I guess I didnt miss anything. The Spike shows are rampant with overacting, and idiots who let fame go to their heads. And what is up with the guy on extreme 4x4 with his stupid azz hair? He looks like Syndrome from the Pixar movie, The Incredibles. Get some real people on these shows, and treat us like people, thats all I ask.
