Bought an AW4 with NP231 off a fellow' s garage floor. I have the NP231 sitting on my table right now. Wondering what to do to it other than install it.

Destination is a RWD 1995 XJ that is nice enough to be around a good long time. It'll be a daily driver, will likely get a 3" lift for mild trail use.

Option 1: Nothing seems wrong with it so stick it in the Jeep and keep $ in my pocket.

Option 2: Unknown miles or history so rebuild it. Tag says 1/11/99. It's 26 yrs old.

Option 3: Rebuild with SYE even though not needed for a 3" lift, but it'll never be easier. I'll need to source a driveshaft anyhow since the RWD shaft is too long.

Refresh with new chain and shift fork tabs, or refresh and SYE. At about 3-4 inches of lift is when you want an SYE.

I ordered full rebuild kit with chain, and a SYE.
I really like my TeraFlex 2L kit, real nice for rocky trails when lowrange is needed but not 4WD makes the steering nice and it slides right into 4L. I also threw in a 6 pinion planetary while I rebuilt mine, 150$ for a little piece of mind.
