I am currently running a 89 Cherokee on 3" lift with 31s with a 4.0 and 3.55 gears. I have a set of axles out of an 86 Cherokee with 4.10s. Rear will be easy enough to just swap the axles, Front, not as easy. I was lucky enough to get the non vacuum disco front end in mine and it has the better u-joints, etc. Whereas the 86 front end has the vacuum disco. My plan was to take the gears out of the 86 front end and install them into my 89 front end (my dad has the shop and tools and ability to do it).
My delima now being I've gotten used to the slightly better mileage the bigger tires provide with stock gearing. Also I'm being told that it is not worth trying to pull and reinstall used gears. The XJ is my only rig at the moment and cannot afford to have it down for more than my days off... so should I do it or should I sell the axles with the 4.10s? its a 30/35 in both cases.
