I remember riding the train around and having my ID checked all the time, you either had a German ID, your Passport, or a military ID. If you didn't have one of those with you the cops were taking you to the station. No one there cares about having their ID checked every so often, but here its a travesty if someone gets asked one time to show ID at a checkpoint.
My wife was telling me that people were more worried about the East Germanys coming and taking jobs then they were about the Turks.
Crossing a border usually resulted in an ID check, but not always. Internally in Germany, the last time I was asked for my ID was in 1995, at a drunk check on Christmas eve.
Everybody got in an uproar when the East Germans showed up looking for work, those days are past. Then they all got upset again, when the borders to Poland came down and the workers started showing up, they got over it. And like I said, most of the people doing the screaming were either the unions or people on the dole. The unions and the welfare people didn't want the competition.
I remember once many years ago, some pimple faced girl threatened to have me deported because I didn't have some paperwork. I said please do, my wifes a beatch, my kids barely know I exist and this farking country sucks anyway. Now that that is settled, you can look out after my wife and kids, where do I get on the plane. She paniced and ran into the back room, some old guy came walking out laughing his arse off.
The Turks are a small part of the problem, radical Islam is the beast. While you guys are harassing the Mexicans, you are taking your eye off of the actual threat.
The whole closing the border thing, then the illegals, morphed into something else after 911. People are now merrily running off on some sort of tangent.
