TN help for redneck....

In order to keep proper pre-load on the uni-bearings you must have the stub shaft installed and torqued to 175ftlbs or the uni-bearing will fall apart. Carry at least one, better yet 2 stub shafts/unibearings. Another killer for the D-30 is the axle u-joints and stock shafts, if a axle u-joint lets go it will take out the stub shaft ears and can take out the ball joints and also bend the inner "C". That is why most who wheel hard on a 30 will run chromo shafts and stronger joints or go with Longfields like I have.

Of course strengthening the shafts puts the load on the carrier/R&P so if that breaks you will need 2 stub shafts and axle tube plugs to get back home(just remove front DS, both axle shafts, install stub shafts and plug the tubes and drive home in 2wd)

He was running a chromo shafts.

Chromos are definately not bullet proof.......I know. I do carry a 2wd stub shaft with me just in case. Not that I drive it hard or could break a chromo...:D but you never know when a friend might need one.

^^ That's an understatement!:roflmao:

Hey that's what there built for, right?

Yea he made it home...... and to work on time!

I just made it in the door! I clocked into work only 4min late! The jeep is back in the shop and ready for new parts. When it happened we thought I just took out the locker. Winched myself off the trail and started limping back. As you can see it wasn't just the locker I took out and I didn't make it very far! I sheared all 4 pins in the lockrite and wedged it so it wouldn't unlock. Then it took out the DS chromo stub shaft that let the hub bearing go. It didn't take the hub bearing very long to give out. Thats the 2nd chromo stub shaft that ive sheared... Im not impressed with them at all.

The only real carnage out of it all was the e drivers side WJ caliper that was ripped off the knuckle. That made it a very interesting ride home with 3 of 4 brakes. I sold my passenger side spare shaft but still had my driver side. I lucked out on that one! We had all the parts and tools on the trail and in about an hour I was on the road (on board air rules!). Made it home with just stub shafts fine. I think its time to start looking for a front D44 to build and parts for hydro assist. 35's + stock power steering pump = FAIL

I really cant thank everyone enough for the hospitality and help. This is just another prime example of what makes NAXJA so great!

Andy knows about riding home with 3/4 braking power....

Yeh, but I think I was less concerned about losing a REAR than I would have been if it was the FRONT:scared:

What brand of chromos are you running?

MAN, when you say one last trail ride before you go away i guess you really meant it huh!?!?:explosion
i hated to hear about the carnage but i'm glad you managed to get back safely.

Well, you couldn't just put all that into NEW tires, and not get them dirty before parking it for a year:looser:
How much you want to RENT them??:dunno:

Yukon with the Super Joints. Love the joints, dont like the stub shafts. I noticed that my first replacement stub is different than the originals. Maybe they corrected a design flaw? :dunno: I didn't brake that one! I was looking over the website and they say that they only recommend 32" tires on the D30 with their shafts. That could be an issue... :shhh: Im looking at Alloy USA to replace them but I think Ill just start looking for a D44 to match the one in the rear.

I figured I mind as well go all out because I wouldn't be able to for a while! Whats the point in building it if you dont take it to the edge?! :looser: :looney: All I need are a few more upgrades

the yukons are your problem..... get some alloys.

if your still gonna be breaking them.... get a hp ford 44 and a 9"

Yukons absolutely suck... IMHO, stock shafts are better. Heck, Im running those same tires on my Ranger with a 302 puching the D30 around, and its got the ARB locker and stock shafts. No issues at all.
