Tire question for on-road use.

With the 255s on the blue 00, I went with option 2.

So, you figure out what tires to buy yet?

Ultimately I want a set of AR-23's will be pretty far down the road as I want to do WJ steering/brake swap so most likely will be getting 16's to clear the brakes/steering parts.
My MTR-k's are practically new still so do not need/want to go to a different size wheel quite yet.

Another tire to check out, is the GY Wrangler Duratrac. GY usually has rebates on their tires. Also, if you join treadlightly.org you can get an additional 100$ rebate. So really would almost be like only buying 3 tires. That is one of the reasons I got my MTR-k's vs something else. Before rebates I paid 600$ for the set of 4. Got 180$ back in rebates.

BFG AT's are so abundant, they go on sale all the time at discount tire and they have them at Costco.

I have had good luck with them on the XJ on and off road. I got 95k miles out of a set on a heavy ass Ford Excursion and used to put them in my work trucks.

Pretty good on road, good on snow/ice and probably wouldn't hold you back off road until you get pretty serious

IMO, especially for the price there are much better tires out there. I used to be all about them before I knew better. Ran other tires that are superior and never looked back. The last free set I had on my heep a few years ago were horrible when the ground was wet.

Wolf my apologies! You were absolutely correct. The tires I said were 275, are in fact 235/75. Memory gets fuzzy when things sit in the garage and you don't see them. The rims I referred to as grizzly because that's what I've been told they are look like this. Feel free to correct me if I was misinformed.

I am posting using my android so I hope the pic displays.

Not trying to highjack the thread just wanted to get the correct I info out there.

OP, Go for this deal!

I have been running these tires in this size on my '98 Limited around suburban Chicago since they first became available in the mid-00's and they have served me very well. I usually paid around $650-$680 per set and those were mounted to my factory rims by the neighborhood Goodyear franchise.

I am on 24 hr duty today and then have to complete the work day tomorrow but I will get pics of all tires and show the tread depth for all 4 tires.

I had no idea the wheel had a name. I just googled "grizzly xj wheels", and that's what came up.

How's the tread on the tires? I'm actually down in the Bay Area on an internship for the summer, but will be back up in Chico the 2nd-3rd week of August.

Tread depth is really good. I can't get you picks with a measurements until tomorrow evening. I am an active duty service member and I am on 24 hr duty today. I live on the eastern side of the sierras and the 108 is my best route over to that side of the state.

Those are the ecco wheels. The grizzly spokes are a little more pointy if that makes any sense. I have 4 of the dark eccos on my XJ and when I got them I was told they were grizzlies, so I found one grizzly for sale and bought it for a spare wheel. Never noticed it was different until a couple days ago after I bought new tires and they kept my best old tire as a spare and mounted one of the new tires on the spare rim. They didn't even notice it was different, but after I had been driving around for a couple days I noticed it looked a little bit different.

OK I'm glad somebody could clear that up. I've been under the assumption they were grizzly's for quite a few years now, thanks.

Ya me too.

On that note, if anyone has a dark ecco wheel that they would like to trade for a dark grizzly wheel, I would be happy to make that trade. Also if someone wants to trade 4 grizzlies for my 4 eccos I would do that as well

Here are the pics I promised. Sorry so late I had family things come up.

Here is the little snow flake mountain symbol (snow rated so CHP won't screw with you when snow restrictions are place, just make sure you carry chains when it states to)

Here are all 4 tires with echo wheels

Here is the average tread depth. I used a quarter cause the gods were smiling on me and I had no pennies in my pocket (amazing I know cause my 7 yr old loves to steal my quarters)
