Re: The NAC Lots-O-Muscle-Cars-But-no-driveway-Burndogs Thread

Well...two things.

For $50k I'm building the Cobra kit car w/Coyote motor that I really want. I love old iron, muscle cars, etc but if I'm gonna put a lot of time/money/effort into something, it's not going to have 50-year-old suspension geometry and engineering. Just not what I'm after.

And I think I've come to realize that all the 80's and 90's cars I liked, are really not that great now. Style, sure, but the last thing I want if I ever take on a car project is a road boat or finicky, expensive, aging sportscar. That's why I got rid of my Corvette to begin with.

I'm weird. I know for a reasonable amount of money right now (say, $25k) I can pick up a C5 Z06, do some very mild mods and have a nearly 400whp track machine that I can daily drive and get 28 MPG on the highway. But I'm weird, and everyone has a corvette, and just meh. I'd rather blow my money on an old Alfa and work on it as much as I drive it. All my dream cars when I was a kid are still pretty valuable now.. except for a few. Let's see.. we'll start with the two I already have/had:

Subaru 2.5 RS Coupe.. Check
Land Rover Discovery.. Check
Gen II Montero.. prob never going to have one bc they're all old and rotted now

All three of those are still cheap, not really "dream" cars but ones I lusted over in magazines and whatever. Now here we go to the good stuff..

BMW E30 anything
BMW E39 M5
Aston Martin DB7/Jaguar XK
Lotus Esprit
Mercedes 190E 2.3 16v
Porsche 930 911
Porsche 993 911
Porsche 928
1970 Dodge Challenger
1968 Mustang Fastback

With the exception of the Jag XK, prices have gone from attainable to astronomical in the past 10 years for any of those. The M5 never really went down in price at all, I think it's been the same since it came out in what... 2001?

Also, 80s-90s european engineering > 80s-90s US engineering. Don't take this the wrong way, but a 79 Corvette isn't the poster child for "well put together sports car." But who am I to judge? I want an Alfa.

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Muscle-Cars-But-no-driveway-Burndogs Thread

My neighbor has a Z06. Don't know what he paid, but he goes to the track all the time with it in an enclosed trailer. Thing sounds really nice.

As cool as E-bodies are, I've never lusted after one just because of how much they cost for something that's ancient. That and I'm probably desensitized since I grew up riding in my father's 70 hemi.

I was always more into the A-bodies as they embodied real performance more in my mind(obviously not when they were made ). Lighter weight, more compact, easily tubbed and the bonus was they were (and still are) much cheaper than all the others.

I don't really have much of a "dream car". If I had to pick one, it would be a 67-69 fastback cuda (what do you know, an A-body). I always envision this thing in my head when I think of one.

**** jeeps and muscle cars let's all get 95 Honda civics and slap in turbos with duct tape and put on whistle tips

Re: The NAC Lots-O-Muscle-Cars-But-no-driveway-Burndogs Thread

My next old car I want a 68 B-body. Really want a Roadrunner, buy I'd probably settle for a Satellite and build a resto clone or something. Or build a 70 into a wing clone with an unusual engine

My brother would be willing to sell his 70 charger for the right price.

I've always been set on a 69 Charger def same Paint as Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. But that will never happen so I'll settle for a 70-71 D100 and make a Dude clone

The blue one? My dad has a large sum he's been saving for a Mopar. I told him we need to go to Carlisle with your family

My totally sweet dodge stratus died this sunday so you guys will all be jealous that I am now the proud owner of the much lusted after and quintessential dream car of all people, that's right assholes, I just got a 2004 Hyundai elantra. Who wants to ****ing race now!? Ya **** off you're all scared. Whatever, suck it, dream on idiots you'll never have a car this cool. You guys probably still think jeeps are cool. Oh man, my car is so awesome. Wow. Oh man.

How much does he have?

No idea but probably insultingly low.

What's wrong with the engine anyways?

Meh I'll hold on to it. I know I won't get to it anytime soon but I don't care if it sits either. The engine is just seized from sitting last I checked it it would turn but get stuck. I was going to free it up but just put it off, that was awhile ago, it's probably worse. It's already cold enough for me to have no motivation for it. I still plan on getting a Datsun 620 but I probably won't even do that this summer. I'll focus on the motorcycle first, maybe a dirt bike, I also started getting into indoor rock climbing and would like to be doing real rocks by spring so there's that. Maybe I'll just ****ing keep it, I really don't care if it sits there and $1000 isn't going to make my life any better and I don't need the space. Plus it's rad.

M5's are cheap enough now- you can come up with a decent example between $15-20k. I've heard that E39's are maintenance nightmares, but who knows. I don't think a ton of M5 owners are DIY guys either.

E30's should be affordable enough. I think the market is artificially high on these, partially because the E30 M3 is getting up there in value.

On another note, I won a T56 on the ebays.

Race jeep does awesome burndogs and hits fuel cutout at 103 because of the wrong speedo gear

I still just want a foxbody again, then I can die happy. So someone get me a rotted 4 banger to beat on so I can get dead.
