THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

. No worrying about parking a tow rig and trailer, don't need a big tow rig, don't have to load and unload. The trailer thing just seems to tie you down and every trip now becomes a project.

Well...I'd disagree with that part. As Bill said I use the truck/trailer for far more than just wheeling trips, so it's never a big deal for me. And I've never 'not done' a wheeling trip just because I had to trailer the rig somewhere (and actually, worked out better in a lot of cases, where I'd trailer it *to* somewhere then drive it around all weekend).

Mostly it's a matter of logistics, especially with the racing stuff. For a pure rec-wheeling weekend I'd be much more inclined to leave the tow rig at home.

I'm also far less picky about what I drive on the street than most of you (with the exception of Sam). :D

THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think my jeep won't be to bad for a wheeler that can be driven to the trail no problem. But I don't want to drive it to corzet or the gulches because that is a haul to have to rig shit to get home.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If more people scrapped built jeeps with tow rigs and trailers through my dad I'd be driving with that shit everyday in tow and wheel every day. BITCHES.

J/K guys, I'd just throw it out. Once XBOBJ gave up wheeling I was like "this hobby just aint for me."

This isn't a boat and gun forum now?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What rear shocks should I use for my Jeep?!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm building another rig. So its just not gonna be 60 60 60 14b 14b 14b and more dick dick penis penis farts poop poop.

And I might have a buyer for everything but the atlas for 4k.so if I sell the atlas for 2.5k that's 6.5k that's not too bad. And pretty close to the 7 I wanted.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yup. I didn't buy my truck just for jeep shit. I use it for hauling shit, just bought a plow for it, and the trailer I got for nothing from my father. Just had to spend a few bucks on new axles.

Driving two hours to go wheeling made it a project no matter what. Trailering had nothing to do with it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yea I have my dads truck and my buddy RJ has 2 that he has no issues letting me borrow. So I really have no need for a truck. The burb would likely turn into a 9mpg minivan when laurens car eventually goes. I can just fit almost Evey tool I need for any job in my car. So the back of an Xj would be more than enough.

And on top of everything I really would rather have had an excursion. Or a van. A 4x4 van is the real jack of all trades. Seat 12 kids take the seats out and I could fit 26 8'boards of rock no problem.

Oh yea, If i was racing, trailer no doubt, but for a fun machine this is way simpler to me.

I've said this before, but its more of an adventure to me. I have to build the rig to do well offroad as well as be comfortable enough to drive on the highway for hours at a time. Its not that difficult to accomplish.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll drive anything, so long as it's free.

I had a nice truck once, was going to do the trailered rig thing. But it mostly sat in my driveway. I just kept driving the jeep on 37" creepy crawlers every day lol.

There have been times when I just woke up and was like "i'm going to see if anyone wants to go to Mabell today." Got a couple rigs, hopped in and went. And there have been countless times at local spots. I get a call or text about wheeling and I'm on the trail in 40 minutes. I miss that kinda thing.

Mmhmm. If it weren't for the racing stuff I probably wouldn't build another trailer'd rig again. But, that doesn't mean it'd be something "nice" or little either...

I do plan on *trying* to drive this one around. It'll be comfortable enough for sure, as far as seats & ergonomics. (lack of a roof, windshield, or any creature comforts notwithstanding, but I'm not concerned about that). The only reason I wouldn't is if it's a complete and total handling cluster**** on pavement, which for all I know it might be. Valving, spring rates, and steering to make a long-travel TTB work well offroad could end up being terrible and unpredictable on the highway...in which case I'll probably still drive it around town anyway.

Putting together the final list for all the components I need to do the steering column, clutch pedal assembly, and brake pedal assembly tonight...hopefully getting all that stuff on order tomorrow. The steering shaft is nearly 5' long and has 3 u-joints, and 3 supporting heim joints along its length.

Steering wheel is proving problematic though as most 'small' racing wheels seem to be around 13" and I'd like something a little smaller than that. I can, and would like to do something with a 'center' as the mechanical steering will always have a fixed middle position...so considering 'D' shape wheels or the sportier-kinda Grant ones too.

Chain welded into whatever shaped steering wheel you desire.

Lets take it through NYC

Chain welded into whatever shaped steering wheel you desire.

And a footprint gas pedal.

I put thousands of road miles on it like that...

(sheds small tear)

And a footprint gas pedal.

I *do* need to figure something out for that too...
