The MJ hauls basically almost anything I need it to... except really, really large stuff.

You need a 5 ton, easy answer. 7x14 foot bed, think how much rock and how many kids you can fit in that kind of space. You can even get troop seats for em.

I wish tire rack did real reviews of max traction offroad tires.

and I think the survey results are off. I dont see how the KM2s could be better on ice than the Kevlar. the kevlars have way more siping and little edges to bite the ice. the KM2s are almost totaly smooth.

So aside from some boring Grant foam-rim 3-spokes and a few Kart wheels, most of the other options available are 280mm and 300mm JDM-spec stuff that all look like they're from a video game.

Didn't think this would be the difficult part of putting the steering setup together.

It's got more of a dish depth than I really want once you add the disconnect in, and the foam rim gets slick as shit with gloves/mud/wet on it.

Really wouldn't mind one like this, I've done plenty of road racing with this style and like it...but not sure how it'd work out in the woods.

I think I have an idea of how I want the buggy to look. Cross between Timmay's cab area, the rear of the Toyminator build on Pirate, and the front of a bomber fab buggy. I like how simple all of their lines are. Started sketching some stuff out last night.

I won't get to the point of taking measurements until next winter, but I think I'm going to shoot for 2" tubing for the main pillars and 1.75" everywhere else. I have a feeling between the 440/NV4500 combo and Dana axles I'll be over the max weight for 1.75" tube. I'm sure most racing organizations are going to be following suit to that rule so might as well prepare for it, and it obviously doesn't hurt to build something safer to begin with.

With all of the life changes coming your way, (house, marriage... etc...) I would keep the MJ together for as long as you can. 4 link the rear of the MJ, because youll need the brackets on the axle anyway for the buggy. Heck, if its planned well, you could use the axle and control arms too. Unfortunately, once you own a house and start that "next" chapter in life, hobby projects take 2 to 3 times as long as planned.

Without turning my reply into a novel, I'm just going to say I've given this a LOT of thought and talked it over with Kate a LOT. I haven't even fully committed myself to the idea yet.

I know everyone enjoys throwing their $.02 in and being the voice of reason (hell I do it to you guys as well) and I do appreciate it, but believe me when I say I've been giving this a lot of thought. Wheeling/racing is my ONLY hobby. I don't have "hobby projects".

And as far as the MJ goes, doing the 4 link out back correctly would involve reworking coolant/exhaust/fuel plumbing, as well as the radiator mount, shock hoops and the frame itself, as well as possibly the rear crossmember. It's WAY more time and money than I want to invest into something that I won't be happy with in the end.
