THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Errbody on the growin' up train.

And the v8 in the disco is actually a Buick motor.
Based on one, but not exactly one, iirc. You can use the crank out of an old 300 or something right? I remember my rover nerd buddy said something like that a while ago, he's got some juiced up giant stroker or something in his rover that makes more power than he has self control for :roflmao:

I should just introduce you guys on facebook or something so you can yap about this directly with him. He knows a LOT about D1s, D2s, P38s, RRCs, etc. Used to run a fairly well respected rover shop and sorta-associated-club down in GA before moving out west.

Growing up is very overrated.
Agreed. Can't wait till I've paid off the last of my debt and finished the house, so I can continue not growing up at an ever increasing pace

Finishing a couple projects and building a shop is after that. I haven't decided if moving to NH goes before or after... I should probably decide that before dumping money on a shop eh?

apparently its the same exact motor, just bored out and fuel injected.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

it has its pros and cons

Meh. Sounds boring.

So what do you guys think of those prices I posted?

When everything sells really fast, you probably should've asked for more.

Me and Bill are gunna hang out with our big jeeps and be best buds ;)

I'm lookin forward to goin wheeling again.

I don't really do the standing around thing very well though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

last time we went to F&F a guy broke an atlas yoke or something and we spent forever winching him up the hill. then we spent forever watching people get stuck on the trail thats right behind the spot where rob rolled. you rolled right before that spot I think.

I know that stuff happens. and its part of the sport. and a yoke could break even on a small rig. but it seems to happen less.

availability of parts is a big lesson I learned in Moab when My steering broke and in the wheeling mecca no one had the part. it I wasen't so good and building dumb stuff(sharkfin) I would have had to order it and have it mailed to the campground.

and I love bsing with you guys. it is half the fun. but I just miss really wheeling. plus having a rig I sunk over 20K into that gets used 2 maybe 3(if the planets aline) just doesent make sense. tow rig and trailer is more expensive then just throwing some junk in the back and going out.

Alot of it comes down to I miss being able to drive my jeep. and the stupid way I built it makes it not streat-able. and there are too many things I want to fix that it makes more sense to start again.
Seems to happen less on a small rig? Eh, I'm not so sure. It may not be a yoke, but axles, balljoints, steering, etc all seem to go. It's just different stuff on the larger rigs.

I'm looking at is as this:
Truck and trailer = I don't have these just for the Jeep. I probably use the trailer 30-35 times a year and 1/10 of that is for the Jeep. I'm not quite sure how I'd do a lot of things we've done in the past couple years without the truck/trailer.

Jeep = Like you and others I have a TON of money invested in it. I also have a ton of time, but here's the thing... What am I going to get out of it if I part it or sell it? Maybe 1/3 of what I have into it? I'd rather let it sit in the garage and take up space just too pass it every morning than take that kind of loss financially. Could we use the money I could get from selling it? You bet your ass we could! But so could almost everyone that does this. I can't name a single person that we wheel with that does this to blow extra cash laying around.

I'm with you here. I sometimes regret I can't tool down the road in mine but that is part of the game. I chose a trailer queen before it was the norm with this crowd, eh. It is what it is and is why I'm pretending to save for my next project car.

Im not ready right now but I just saw a 98 4door with a blown reverse gear for 600$ I could put a new trans in myself for 4-500$ that leaves me almost 4K in goodys. plus with the burb, jeep and trailer good should net me almost 17K. thats almost 12K in "profit"

and I tried to teach her, it resulted in alot of screaming and crying. it was pretty adorable.
What is $4k going to realistically get you? It sounds like a lot of money (and it is!) but think about what you have in yours and the little things that you've done to improve it beyond the axles and tires, shit adds up quick. IMO, I think you're dreaming if you get $17k for all that. If you decide to sell I truly hope you get it, but I think you're being unrealistic.

I think you're making the right choice Stefan. It's crazy to have a huge Jeep that never gets used, and a tow rig and a trailer just to move it the few times a year you go wheeling. With a smaller rig you could make the short drive up to Billy's and come wheel for a weekend. You'd have twice the fun for half the price.

And Bill the only reason you don't notice that all the bigger jeeps do is break and get stuck is you only wheel once, MAYBE twice, a year. It ruins all the fun to go 10 feet every hour and only wheel one trail a day. Is a huge Jeep on one tons and 40's cool? **** yeah, no one can argue that. Is it even remotely practical, especially for Stefan who is out of work, getting married, looking to buy a house and lives 3+ hours away from wheeling that's worth it? Nope, no way, no matter how you try to spin it. I have to agree with what Mark said the other day, some things are more important, and when it's time to move on, it's time to move on.
You're saying that only to have someone to sit next to on the "I sold my junk" bench.

I wheeled four times last year thank you very much. I'm scheduled for three this year at least. I'm staying just under 40s so I don't have to measure dicks with you. :kissyou:
Is it practical? Hell no. The only person that has done anything practical is Mark with his Honda. I challenge you to find the fun in that. Thankfully Mark has other hobbies like diving he can get into.
Living life practically doesn't lend one the most fun.
Me and Bill are gunna hang out with our big jeeps and be best buds ;)
After this year it'll be you, Sheep, Dundy & me.
Rob & Colin will be rebuilding
Chris will be building still
Adam may be using the Rover on C6 roads.
Ken will hopefully be done with the house
Travis better be doing something or at least coming out
Mark better be coming out at least once so we don't forget what he looks like
Pat & crew will be swinging off each other.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

17k is selling the burb trailer and jeep. I don't see why the burb with a rebuilt motor won't go for 4k by its self. So I don't think 4-5k is unreasonable for those two. That alone will buy a 1k jeep. Spacers and leafs and tires.

Also I don't think you have spent much time under my jeep. Its not worth keeping. If I was as meticulous as you and taken more time it would be a different story. Its really cobbled together. And literly falling apart. I took a right turn into a parking spot and the chassis with stiffeners tweaked so bad one side sat 2in lower than the other.

Any more money I put into this will be a total waste. When it folds. And I'm not anywhere near able to cage it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

And I hate using the burb. I mean I love it but 10mpg unloaded makes it stupid to use for anything other than around town. And as of right now I only use the trailer for the jeep. I have never used it for anything else.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sounds like if it is that bad a new chassis with all your other parts on it is the way to go. Doing that will also let you keep it street able.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the second you park it for good and honestly tell yourself its going to get parted you'll know whether or not your making the right choice. i honestly dont want to have a nice, built wheeler/DD. its a compromise before you even start... i like having my car clean and nice looking, but if you wheel youre gonna smash it up. and if you build something up really well and dont wheel it hard its a waste. my red XJ was dented up before i even got it bc of my buddy who had it before me. he never really clean it or cared about the body but it was well-maintained otherwise which is why i liked it so much.

could i have kept it and left it sitting in the driveway? sure, but thats a waste bc i could use the money... i'm not making 65 grand a year and im trying to buy a house in a year or so. i have other life priorities other than wheeling a built up truck at the moment.

no offense, and no offense to stefan either, but his truck isnt really streetable. he'd have to rebuild the whole thing... and its not as easy or convenient as you dudes with houses and 2.5 car garages make it out to be.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The hydro sucks on the road. So do the iroks.

Also it doesn't look like it but I have a bit of work into the body. Custom trans tunnel. New welded in nuts for the x member a pushed forward track bar mount. I know there's more stuff I'm forgetting. Idk if I want to redo all that. Plus idk when I will be able to redo all that. I can in no way afford a new body plus all the time to do all that any time in the next 3 years.

Its not 100% but I'm 90% sure I'm going g to do this.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

could i have sold my shit for more $$? yea, but i sold 90% of my stuff in 2 weeks and made a good amount of money. it isnt a bad time to do it, youll get a good amount of cash for all the stuff you have.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I already have someone interested in the axles. And I think that guy john with the ls Xj might buy my atlas. He was really interested in it in moab. And it would be a pretty good deal. On his end.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Believe it or not, Jordan has an xj that might be perfect for you. Its a 4dr auto With around 100k. I am sure he would practically give it to you. Build something you can drive on road with the parts you already have. Sell the axles rims and tires and keep the atlas and other parts that can be used on another Xj.
