Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

axles dont sound to great when they have no gear oil, oops

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well I guess I found my problem from yesterday

I'm hoping I can get that piece that's wedged in there free, then pull what's left of the pins with it still in the Jeep, because I really don't want to strip the front end apart again. The only thing that worries me is I can't find the other half of the fourth pin...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Checked the diff cover magnet (if any), already, I assume?

That sucks. Hopefully no other damage.

Already check around each side gear inside the carrier? I had a pin hide back there after dropping it trying to put my aussie back in, took me forever to find it.

No magnet, I'm guessing it's inside the locker somewhere. I really don't want to pull it all apart to fix it, but I may have to if I can't find that piece. It would be a shame to ruin a fresh set of bearings/gears when it worked itself loose and took a ride.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The box isn't lining up but ill spend next Saturday getting that in and i need to get the truck inspected this week so that will be Saturday mos likely
Trick for lining the damn box up -
Get yourself a 6 inch long 7/16 coarse thread bolt. Cut the head off. Put a big ****in' slot across it for your largest flat blade screwdriver, or grind flats onto the end where the head was.

Spin the headless bolt a few turns into one of the steering box holes, slap the spacer on it, line it up and hang it on the frame.

Thread the other two bolts in a few turns.

Unscrew the headless bolt with a flat blade screwdriver or a pair of vise grips. Thread the real bolt in.

I got sick and tired of screwing around with this when I was taking my bumper on and off while building it and made an alignment peg like this, been using it ever since, it makes steering boxes a lot less frustrating.

thats a good Idea. thats how the FSM says to install the oil pan gasket/ oil pan.

I always jammed 3 long screw drivers in the holes and then took on out at a time and replaced it with a bolt. Used the screw drivers to move the box to line it up.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Damn, that's an even better idea. Can you go back to 3am Saturday morning of 2011 Rocktoberfest and tell me to do that?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just hold it with my left hand and slap a bolt in there with my right hand.

Chevy oil pan gaskets come with some little plastic things you thread into the block. just slide the oil pan over them and walk away and grab some bolts.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I didn't even get a chance to relax this weekend. Had to pick up some furniture from my uncle's girlfriend's father's house who passed away a few months back (enough to fill a mid size u-haul truck), store most of the shit at our house, and then drive up to Keene to move my sister into her apartment.

Then drive back home, wake up at 6:30-7 and drive down to Hartford for Kate's sisters graduation. Spend all day there then drive back home, make dinner, and go to bed.

This coming weekend I'm going wheeling whether or not I fix anything on my MJ. I don't give a ****.
