Did they ever make a 21 spline AX15? I don't believe they did, but want to make sure.
Friend of a friend just blew up the AX5 in his YJ and it looks like all AX5s, even 90s ones (his is a 95) have 21 spline output shafts. Can't find an AX5 that isn't priced in the stratosphere by a we-pull yard, so looking at an AX15 swap w/ Dakota parts, but those are 23 spline output shaft and we don't feel like tearing into his transfer case unless we have to.
Trans is nowhere near repairable by any sane person, opened it up and it looks like crude oil mixed with diarrhea. Turns out he's taken it mudding a few times and never checked the fluid... for years. It's stuck in second gear and really stiff and the fluid was something like 3-4" overfull. I'm expecting every gear tooth and bearing to be rusted.
88-92 ax15? I think but I don't know.
Ax15 was only offered 90+ up and was 23 spline
