I love hiking. It's been at least 6 years since I did any backpacking though, and even then it was just a 6-mile round trip for a one-night camping thing by a lake at the Delaware Water Gap. Beautiful hike though and it was a lunar eclipse as well.
Coming back from the Hammers last year we did a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back in one day, against the dire warnings of the National Park Service. 13 miles round trip and over a mile of elevation change...the hike back up was significantly harder than the way down. Lots of fun switchbacks like this:
The parts to build this bridge were carried down that same trail, piece by piece.
Yes that's snow at the top. Where we hiked to was the bottom of the crevice at the middle right of this photo, and it was very much t-shirt weather at water level.
Those pics would have been better if I had cleaned the desert dust off my lens first. :shaking:
We were told 3 separate times by park rangers that what we were doing was retarded, and that there are multiple signs threatening death or serious injury from it. XXXX it, I had one day to spend there, I wanted to see the damn river. We did the round trip in less than 7 hours including having lunch at the bottom.
