THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Pretty thin man, my stock D60 covers are visibly thicker.

Haha! Funny! You know what I'm reluctantly dropping on things, I'm sure not looking for anything else to spend money on. This is solely for the fact the my truck will see a lot more off-pavement use in the coming months (clearing land) and one backup without seeing a rock or fresh cut stump and I'm out a lot more than $65-100.

I'm going to double check my dad's cover tonight because I don't remember it being that thin.

Again...are you serious? You're telling me you're going to blindly drive into your land with no regard for terrain? You're not going to get out if you get nervous and check to see if there is anything in front/behind you?

Dude...you'll be going like 2mph. You're not going to hurt anything if the cover lets go. All you have to do is creep back to your house (which is like half a mile away) and go get a new cover.

I honestly wouldn't even bother. You could also just throw a piece of plate steel over it if you're really that worried.

everyone is telling you to get creepy crawlers for your ctd and you arent doing it, so you cant tell other people how to build thier trucks

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think bill should invest that diff cover money in the NAConomy.

I mean he is the president.

It's like a stimulus plan.

The money will be split amoung the top posters in the NAC and must be used in the NAC for sale section.
Once you start paying NAC taxes and I get a salary from that, sure! :D
I dunno, they are kinda lame. The one on my dads truck needs replacement soon. I bet I could easily smash it with a hammer, its pretty rusty too.
I'm glad someone else has taken a look at one and saw what I did. Mine doesn't have any rust, but it sure can't be much more than 3/32" thick.

Now I know how Anthony feels. :rattle:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That would not be cool. If that happens I could buy Jeep parts with every intent to sell Jeep parts back to you later if need be...
That's quite generous. Thanks.

We'll see what happens.

Talk to me when every 3rd message directed at you is like that for 2 months straight.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

They must have. $130 + shipping for a D60 cover with countersunk bolts.

Oh wait...full hydro > hydro assist :D

Doesn't look like they have the weld-it-yourself option anymore, either.

We shall agree to disagree on your second point. You should drive mine one of these days. :D

The TTB race rig will be full hydro, but only because of the geometry, and I'm not overly thrilled about that.

I can unequivocally state I will not be taking part in this.

I HATE hiking when it involves a backpack with more than like 10-20lbs of stuff in it. I can't stand sweating as I move slowly up a mountain...

I love hiking. It's been at least 6 years since I did any backpacking though, and even then it was just a 6-mile round trip for a one-night camping thing by a lake at the Delaware Water Gap. Beautiful hike though and it was a lunar eclipse as well.

Coming back from the Hammers last year we did a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back in one day, against the dire warnings of the National Park Service. 13 miles round trip and over a mile of elevation change...the hike back up was significantly harder than the way down. Lots of fun switchbacks like this:

The parts to build this bridge were carried down that same trail, piece by piece.

Yes that's snow at the top. Where we hiked to was the bottom of the crevice at the middle right of this photo, and it was very much t-shirt weather at water level.

Those pics would have been better if I had cleaned the desert dust off my lens first. :shaking:

We were told 3 separate times by park rangers that what we were doing was retarded, and that there are multiple signs threatening death or serious injury from it. XXXX it, I had one day to spend there, I wanted to see the damn river. We did the round trip in less than 7 hours including having lunch at the bottom.

All it takes is one time swinging around the trailer. Let's face it some of the places we take trucks/trailers are not the most ideal.

I'm trying to visualize this...and failing. What does swinging a trailer around have to do with a diff cover?

the locals in ouray thought we were retarded for wanting to run engineer pass at sunset.

so we bitched out

i wish we didnt.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wheeling is a motorsport, not an active sport. I don't even put wheeling or motorcycle riding on the same list as the other stuff, despite the fact that it can be tiring.
Agreed, though that was a list of shit I do for fun, not a list of true sports I partake in. I guess I should have put house demo and construction on the list too. I find that that gets me pretty sore by the next day, but doesn't truly get me sweating because I work alone, so I end up splitting my time between heavy exertion while doing demo/lifting materials, and lying on the roof nailing things down.

That would not be cool. If that happens I could buy Jeep parts with every intent to sell Jeep parts back to you later if need be...
TARP right here :roflmao:

If it's like an 8.8 stock cover I would personally replace it also. Might not be required, but worth the peace of mind.

Why not make one yourself though? You definitely have all the materials and skills required.

Hey if you want to hand over the keys, I'll put it through it's paces :D

Yeah I don't get how that would happen either, but like I said I think Bill is trying to waste money :D

Now I know how Anthony feels. :rattle:

:D

For all the talking about saving money I just don't get why you want to waste it on that. Maybe I'll change my mind when I take a look at my dad's cover but I doubt it. The stock XJ D44 covers are stupid thin. When mine started leaking, I pooped silicone in the hole. If I knew how to weld I would have just welded a plate over it.

you are stupid. those things chunk like crazy

JEALOUS

I already let all the LI guys drive it, I don't care. I really doubt anyone else is gonna drive it as hard as I do.

And it definitely seems like the diff cover thing is something that can be addressed when/if it becomes an issue. Duct tape some paper towels over the hole in the interim.

Just saw this:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/04/06/maryland.toilet.prank/index.html?iref=NS1

(CNN) -- Police in Maryland are on the hunt for the perpetrator of what appears to be an April Fools' Day prank that left a man glued to a toilet at a Wal-Mart store.

If caught, the jokester who doused the seat with glue at the Elkton Wal-Mart on March 31 could face second-degree assault charges, said Lt. Matthew Donnelly of the Elkton Police Department.

Police, along with the Singerly Fire Co. and the Cecil County paramedics, were called to the scene at about 7 p.m.

There, they found the 48-year-old victim, who called for help after realizing the sticky situation he was in when he tried -- and failed -- to stand up and leave the superstore's restroom, Donnelly said.

It took responders 15 minutes to remove the victim from the stall, but they were unable to disconnect the toilet seat from his body, Donnelly said.

Instead, the victim was taken to Union Hospital of Cecil County, where the seat was detached. He left with only minor injuries to his buttocks, Donnelly said.

Police do not suspect that the victim was specifically targeted, but that the incident was a random prank, Donnelly said. They have not received reports of glue-laden toilet seats since.

BAHAHAHA

THAT looks like a ton of fun. Maybe not the 1 day thing, but I'd love to do that some day.

Backing up you don't see how you could hit something?
Come on guys its not like I plan to do anything to my truck here, its simply a precaution.

I would rather have done it as an overnight as well, but we didn't have the gear or the time. As it was we were running down a lot of it.

The biggest pain in the ass is the width of the steps. The trail was built for mule traffic and they still have mule rides up and down the whole thing, so the stairs were built to accomodate them. Unfortunately this means they're like step-and-a-half width...there's no way to get a good even pace going on them. Hence the running - with the additional stride length you can make decent headway.

Honestly I thought you were picturing poking the diff with the tongue of the trailer or jackknifing it into the axle or something.

But no, usually I look at the spot I'm backing something into before I actually do it. :D

This is why I offered some seat time to Anthony for the 17th. I beat the shit out of the thing, if I haven't broken it, he probably won't either, and if he does I probably would have broken that next anyways :dunno:

I keep bugging Colin to try and get him to show up too but he keeps working on some stupid MJ or something instead. It's like he wants to finish it and get it wheeling :dunno:
