So I'm attempting to rebuild the shutter release button assembly on my camera. Apparently this is a known point of failure on these cameras; mine has lasted since mid-2006 which is a huge anomaly. Mine was also one of the early production models which were better.
Camera is a Sony DSC-H2, nothing fancy compared to some of the equipment on here, but a real decent non-SLR with 12x optical zoom. The repair kit was $18, which is worth trying on it.
This thing uses the tiniest XXXXing hardware. In the attached photo, the little black dot next to the dime (with the screwdriver pointing at it) is the C-clip that holds the button in the housing. This is what failed on mine originally and causes the button to pop out of the camera housing.
Currently waiting for the Krazy glue securing the shaft to the new button to cure. Then I get to assemble the shutter release and try to get that tiny clip in place.
